The problem with paying teachers what they deserve, short of areas like New York where there are competitive private schools, is the unions they formed themselves. Pay is based on years service and other things that have little to do with ability. Once a non-stellar teacher is tenured, they are there as long as they want to be. This does not allow them to be replaced if they fail to meet expectations. Face it, once again, a non-competetive atmosphere has left us with an education system that needs a complete overhaul.

well when i think teacher i dont think college i think k-12 sorta thing so when i say this little spiel/point/notation/whatever it really doesnt concern college (atleast i hope not)

well anyway if you think about it how much does a baby sitter get paid an hour/per kid? and a teacher basically has to baby sit 20-30 some odd kids for an hour or more (or less) with 6 or so classes each day or one class for the entire length of the day and they also have to teach!

Amen, Tenure is a crime! It rewards mediocrity as long as you plant your butt in one seat long enough!

        Sorry Colin,
I know this blows, but it is what it is. Did you ever see "Can't Hardly Wait?" Remember to tip these athletes well when you see them working at the car wash!

This doesn't involve athelets in anyway. but a friend of mine posted something on a website saying something like "man it would be great if Mr. *insert teacher's name here* would die! he gives us SOOO much homework."

He was suspended for two weeks. He then proceded to sue the Gwinette COunty school board. he won.

o cry me a river, its life. everyone has nothing to do but complain. get used to it. football players help the schools make alot of money, draw people to the schools, work hard, and have dedication, its just that they are doing it in something ppl enjoy watching more than homework. i forget what movie or w/e this is from but its like "20,000 people arent gonna come to the stadium to watch a teacher do a math problem". people who take AP courses, score 1500+ on their sats, have the capacity to do so, if they dont then they made a bad choice. would u say that studying for a test when u have an IQ of 170 is easier than running sprints? or lifting weights? they get special treatment because they are talented, and people want to see them. if they werent given special treatment, then they wouldnt be seperated from the rest, they would just be put into the crowd like cattle, while they do something that is physically, and mentally demanding, and that helps the school.

SO Morally0Confused, ur saying that u could play on the same level as say, an nfl quarterback? ur saying that tom brady isnt good at throwing the ball, hes just not afraid to get hurt. yea ok buddy, u couldnt be more wrong. to be good at swimming u have to lose the fear that ur gonna get hurt? u have to be more specific...maybe thats a big part of it for say a goalie or a catcher, but not for other positions, or for other sports for that matter

im sure if i spent the past 20 years of my life training to throw a football i could be alot better than now
little league i was never good enough to be a pitcher
then i spent everyday just training myself to pitch
                        i made pitcher in highschool
everyone has the potential to bench press 300 pounds just takes time
(no i never took the time to get myself to bench 300)

                            stop tying
                            like this
                            write in paragraph form

and no ur still wrong, some ppl will never have the potential to be an nfl qb no matter how much they train. clearly u have never played sports, some people are not meant to be certain things

Atheletes do represent the school; they should get special treatment, except for grades.

They should not desreve special treatment. The people on here that play football and say it is hard, so it getting good grades and succeeding on your knowledge. Not how good you can do in gym. You guys may think that practicing for 3 hours a day in the summer is hard and all. Well it is your choice. But it isnt the smart kids choice to not study. He has to get good grades. If he doesnt he will get kicked out of AP classes. How about you stay home couped up in your room and study for 4 hours before a test with no distractions. Tell me how hard that is and much dedication it takes to sit there and do it. Yea it is dedication. Try doing it for a half hour or something.

We had Shawn Ohara of the Browns come to our school and talk to all of the bad and failing kids about how important academic stuff is compared to football or something. Try being smart, I dare you.
Hey, look at that! It's Santa!
