My friend got a 1991 240sx for about 1100 and he loves that thing to death. But I agree with trains are bad, for the money you could buy a really sweet bike that would destroy all cars/yourself in a hurry and drive the camry when the weather sux. Besides that motorcycle insurance is way cheaper than car insurance.

$5500? And you want someting different from anybody else's? If you look hard enough, you can find a early Nissan 300zx turbo or a Toyota Supra Turbo(these are the late 80's, early 90's models) Not to mention you will have alot over for mods.

But before you plunk down your cash do alot of reading at:

                www.dsmtalk.com

You'll have a hard time finding a 2G for that price so I suggest you look into a 1G('90-'94). Honestly if you are gonna get one of these cars, you best have some mechanical ability and be ready to get dirty 'cause you'll be spending lots of time R$R (not a typo, I stuck that there ffor a reason). Parts break when we ask alot from 'em. They're plenty fast stock.

I've owned a '90 Laser RST and now have AWD Talon.

First you say that yours is more expensive to maintain than a 2000, then you say the parts a cheaper

For your car the alternator would be $209 for the cheapest one that will last more than a month as opposed to $104 for the cheapest one for my camaro. $400 is a good price for an alternator? I can buy a used motor in good shape with an alternator for $400.

And your car is an auto and therefore isn't as fun to drive

FIRST NEVER ACCUSE ME OF DRIVING AN AUTO, MY CAR IS A 5 SPEED GETRAG 260, i take seriouse offense to be accused of driving an auto. to assume my car is an auto shows you really dont know BMW.

my car is more exspensive than an e30 325 ( the car i suggested) and BMW build quality is significantly better than chevy... sorry man your trying to compare apples to oranges

How is build quality better? I bet just as many things go wrong with your car as my car. I thought it was an automatic because I was going to use clutch prices for an example of parts costs but I couldn't find a clutch for your car which lead me to belive they only came in auto.

And is it a horrible thing if I don't know BMW's? I bet I know some other cars better than you do...

its not a bad thing you dont know BMW's but dont talk about them if you dont know them, i know chevys, and i bet i know about some cars you dont, peugeot, citreon, renault, opel/vauxhull,MG,Triumph, skoda, but thats not the topic here. the topic was a fun car to drive, at a low price.

and BMW build quality is obvious, its what the extra money is spent for! my 20 year old bmw is still running strong, most recently the only problem iv had is it heats up a little fast than it should, its a dailey driver, rain, shine and snow. i live in MA, where road salt destroyes cars, my cars has NO rust. the car began its life in cape cod, with cape cods high salt content in the air it came outta there fine. the interior of my car is better than the interior of my friends 89 iroc ( in almost PERFECT condition), my car doesnt rattle, or squeak like his, or any of the other camaros iv been in.

the differance is, people who buy a bmw, want a newer bmw, causeing older bmw resale to disproportiantly drop compared to that wonder of american high school parking lots everywhere. the camaro.

your really trying to compare apples to oranges, maybe youv got something to prove.

the only reason bmw's are more expensive is because they have to import them from germany.

i'm glad you know more mechanical stuff about all those european cars.... it will do you alot of good here in the united states knowing about an opel.
personally i like camaros better than i do beemers. actually the wonder of american highschool parking lots everywhere now are neon's and civics.

besides, you'll pay out the *** for beemer parts vs buying american parts that are just as good.

to the guy who started this thread... good luck finding parts if you buy a beemer.

I'll agree that BMW's are better then most Chevy/Ford vehicles. They seem to be built solid and designed better. Parts might be more pricey but in the end it evens out. Don't have to replace parts as often. I know a few BMW owners that have had theirs since the 80's and pretty much everything outside of the usual tune up (plugs, oil, tires etc) are original.
                                Sorry, I'm old
