Wow talk about Social Darwinists in here...... have you guys considered morality, uh Humanity.
Sri Lanka didnt do anything during 9/11 because even though 911 was a horrible disaster that shock the nation and the world ( if you think other nations didnt care .... you may want to consider how close OUR economy supports the world, maybe the didnt care on a Human level, but they cared). 3,000 people died, our country was truamatized, but nto devestated. what was Sri Lanka suppose to do send us some money?. We as a country are the most powerful nation and can take care of ourselves very well. do you think i would be giving as much aid had this happend in ...say ....Japan. no we wouldnt because things wouldnt be so dire. ( on a side note , Japan Government Donated 500 million dollars).those Nations are devestated they dont have the kind of industralization we do. Whole Generations are lost.

i say, if i am not Actively starving i am going to help someone get themselves on their feet.

its our Duty to God, Humans , and as a Government to help people in need.

"Good lord no wonder everyone hates americans, if it doesnt help them, then they want no part in it."

Complete and utter liberal horse . They don't even care about their own people. I've seen it with my own eyes. The children on the TV wondering around dumps and some bearded guy is begging for dimes, I've seen them with my own eyes. I've seen their fellow countrymen ignore their plight even though they had an abundance of cash, many making more then I do in a year, and spending around a tenth on food and shelter.

There is no such thing as a free lunch. These people's countrymen understand that. Thats why they watch them die in the streets. Forgiegn aid has a price, its price is political capital. If aid isn't buying alliegence, it shouldn't be spent. These countries need to swear an oath of loyalty to us, for bailing them out yet again.

Countries don't care about our lifestyle, our success, our money, or our attitude; they fear our ability to take what they have. That is the source of all conflict. Both greed and conflict are the most human traits a human beings can have.

interesting thing is i have family in New York as well...

Rooster ~ I do think they care about their own people. My cousin recently flew over to Sri Lanka with a group of doctors to help out and he has written back describing how everyone has opened their homes and have been working around the clock helping those in need. I am sure that there are some who are not helping one bit, but for the most part the country is trying its best to cope and to get through this together. A good example would be how the rebels in northern Sri Lanka are now working with the government and vice versa for a greater good.

What the hell does this have to do with helping people who's lives have been completely destroyed??? Not a thing!!!

              stay on topic people!!!

The fact of the matter is, do unto others as you would have done unto yourself. If your entire life and possesions, porobably even family members were lost in a tragic occurrence, and someone gave from their own pocket to give you a helping hand, whether it be 50 bocks or 50 cents, you would be greatful in the generosity of others...

The sooner we enlightened americans stop being so damn selfish in ACTUAL times of need, we would be a better people for it.

I don't want to hear the rhetoric of "Oh we give so much" I am talking about a specific freak occurence like this one.

eh screw a responce. belief that humans as a whole are generous is going to lead you to a great disapointment. people only contribute when they stand to make a gain. wether that gain is monitary, emotional or "heaven points" its ultimatly for your own gain. if you cant see that, then im sorry. you are blind to the human psyche. Man, does not, never did, or ever will care about those who do not directly affect him.

It's called Survival of the Fittest. It's not our fault that a natural disaster occured and whipped out 120,000 people and counting. Why is America always expected to give money, food, supplies, etc. when we can't afford it. Right now we are $5 trillion in debt and why? Because we keep giving and giving. And then the UN tells us that we are being stingy. Screw that. Name one country that gave a us a dime for 9/11?

9/11 was a terrible event, no doubt about that. But the distruction that it caused is nothing compared to the damage that this tsunami has caused. Those that were affected by 9/11 had homes to go back to.

9/11 is also very different in that it was politicaly rooted, as opposed to the tsunami.

Once again, i'm not downplaying 9/11 or anything, just saying that these two events are very very different.

Don't forget that we are considered to be the most prosperous nation in the world. Our GDP is as much as all the third-world countries GDP's combined (not including China's artificially inflated economy).

Jesus, now that I look at that list, do you people even know what taxes are for?
Do I care about people who are too lazy to get a job or just do dumb things and screw up their lives? Not at all.
We pay taxes so our money can go into various black holes. Probably about 50% of what we pay goes to things we actually need, the rest goes to people who don't feel like working, repaving the same road twice a year, sending it to countries that hate us. etc. I would really love to run for a local office and clean up some of the crap that is going on but you have to be corrupt to get elected.
An example of a black hole:
Their is a local road that gets repaved every two years or so for no reason, I think that is the one they go back to after they run out of other roads to do. Recently it was done, then no more than a month later they tore the entire leanth of the road up to replace a pipe and repaved it. Then these paving companies donate a lot of money to canidates for differant positions, I wonder why.

A good part of people on welfare are just plain lazy and take advantage of the system. Their was a thing on tv a while ago where some places required people to work for the town/county to receive certain aid to prevent people from taking advantage and you should have seen some of the interviews with the people complaining about having to wake up at six o' clock and go to work. Then we have people sueing homeless shelters because of their rules and the conditions. The whole system is a joke but that is a whole nother story.
