I wasn't trying to compare the scale of the events, idiots. I was just using it as an example of an American issue where I wouldn't expect many foreigners to care too much.

You guys all failed reading comprehension, didn't you?

Where were you after 9/11? As far as I remember, the majority of countries offered any kind of assistance they could, as far as intelligence, cracking down on terrorists in their own countries, etc.

What you said and what actually happened are two opposites.

No, because my point was, would the average person who was effected / killed in these tsunamis have cared much about the events of 9/11?

The answer is not much, most likely. And I wouldn't expect them to.

I'm not talking about governmental responses here, I'm talking about how much Joe Citizen actually cared.

sure there are a lot dead over there but we are noiw haveing prob's of our own with flooding and mudslides and other things and yet they are still asking for money for the tsunami victims and not our own. they should look after our own then go to the rest.

If you think 180,000 people is close to the population of any U.S. state, you need to do some research. I couldn't find a single state which had fewer than a half million people in 2003, and over 85% had populations over a million. Depending on how disease propagation goes during the aftermath of this disaster, we might see a death toll exceeding the population of Wyoming or perhaps Alaska.

I was in NYC when 911 happened - I will never forget it and still have nitemares sometimes of the people I saw jumping (some holding hands with others) and hitting the ground and the body parts all over the place......however - I will also never forget the reactions of the people around me witnessing it with me - i.e. the tourists: MOST OF THEM WERE LAUGHING AND POINTING..............do I need to further elaborate and say where they were from? (a hint - it wasnt Europe).

                  so.........

as much as I feel for those that were killed during this event - I still feel that we need to help OUR OWN.

and bear in mind that in India and Sri Lanka there IS a CASTE system - which means that the elites could CARE LESS of those in the street since they are part of a 'lower caste' and as such deserve all their misfortunes.......................and yet WE need to feel guilty and give?

As I stated before (and as my posts in the frienndly corner will attest) I am very far to the left politically - but I stilll beleive that we need to take care of our own probs first.......like maybe our national debt, homelessness, UNEMPLOYMENT, skyrocketing cost of living......

why cant SAUDI ARABIA or KUWAIT or EGYPT or NORTH KOREA or ANYONE ELSE give anything? I mean, Sri Lanka IS mostly a muslim country, if Im not wrong.............

Japan is giving 500 million as i said earlier. ( exceeding ours by 150 million, im sure our citiziens will give more).

And for people saying other countries didnt care about us after 9/11. i was in Portugal 2 weeks after 911. and people where Very Compassionate, and Portugal really isnt exactly a rich nation.

what i was saying about 911 is , What can you expect from a 3rd world nation when 3000 people die in the worlds richest most powerful nation ?.

Pakistan pledged to help us find Al-Quida and many other nations pledged help also.

..........and now the Indonesian government has the BALLS to give us a 'timeline' for our aid - i.e. we NEED to be OUT of their country by March....

funny - we are hated til we are needed, and even when we help, we are treated like step-n-fetchit.............

I am sick of this crap - really.

I would rather give my $$$ to the many homeless I see where I live in the Bay Area than to ungrateful idiots. WE NEED TO CARE FOR OUR OWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Rooster you dont think that happens here ?

go to any city and there will be a rich and a poor section. and for the most part you wont see the "rich" lending out a helping hand."

Of course it happens here. We are just as human as anyone else. The most basic human emotion is greed. Consider that, next time some bleeding heart asks you where your humanity is.
