    On a more relevant note:

My dads whole family is from a town where half the people are pig farmers and half are railroad peeps.

Ive gone to the pig farm a lot, it has its own slaughter house, and its one of the major pork producers in the USA.

The pigs dont have it that bad, seriously. Just one example tho, been to chicken/egg farms too, one chicken per cage is the standard unless they are free range chickens.

BTW, that was definitely Alec Baldwins voice. Didnt know he was a pita.
    --------------------------

But because i have a dog, and id probably die for my dog because hes the greatest thing in the world, id have to say that animals deserve humane treatment.

Also, dogs are descendants from wolves, coyotes, etc.

I have one of the most ancient breeds still around today, the small tibetan terrier. A herding/guard dog, if he is intelligent and loyal enough to risk his life for me, then hes not just a "pet".

Man, after that PETA video...I just feel so lucky and appreciative of all the hard the work those animals did to get to my plate. I'm going to go eat that leftover bbq chicken in honor of them.

ehh, if i wasnt so lazy and didnt have other stuff to do id have a long response to this thread.

ive seen a lot of the videos and pictures, and i think anyone who eats meat should be aware of what goes on. true it is probably extreme cases, but it still does happen, and the non-extreme cases are still pretty bad.

still i know just about nothing about peta, was never that interested in it, but from what i hear they are very biased. id like a more creditable source to do a documentary.

ill still always be a vegetarian, but i agree that other people have the right to choose to eat meat. i just think everyone who DOES eat meat should be aware of exactly how it gets to their plate.

Alpha - hah, we have just about opposite points of view here. but one factual thing i have to argue with you... technically i will agree that, in theory, a diet including meat will be healthier than one without any. however i think that in practice the average american diet is far more unhealthy than the average american vegetarian diet.

I know EXACTLY how the meat gets from the cow to my plate!

We fatten one up, call up our butcher, he comes over and shoots said cow in the head with a .22 magnum, then we tie up her feet with a chain and lift her up with the loader, slit her throat and let er bleed...

Then we lay her on a stand, cut the head the rest of the way off, cut the tongue out, cut the feet off at the knees, and start skinning. After we're done skinning we lift her back up with the loader, gut her, and then quarter her out into the back of a pickup.

Once in the pickup we drive the beef up to the butchers house where we hang it in the freezer to cure for a week or two and then he cuts it up and calls us when its done!!!

          Then we have steak!

Very detailed. See what you do is cool because you have raised the cow and stuff. And you know where its been and where its going (your stomach)

I'm blazing home in a few so I skipped most of this thread.

I once took a tour through a meat processing plant and I also worked on a fish processing platform off Kodiak Island.

The cows were shocked with a decent enough volt to knock them loopy then thad their throats cut so the blood dripped out.

Their cows. Not the most intelligent creatures, trust me.

Beef is tasty. So is pork, chicken, lamb and the countless other meats that I ahv eaten.

Now, take into consideration the intention of PETA which is to turn you off of meat. What images are they going to show you? Are you going to see the norm of the industry in which these animals are dealt with in the best possible scenario or is PETA going to show you the absolute worst which is also the absolute minority.

If you choose to not eat meat do so for yourself but don't let these idiots persuade you that there is anything wrong with eating meats like these idiots have convinced some countries that GE foods are somehow evil.
Return to the free market. Get rid of all government regulations and let society make it's own decisions. Time and again the relaxing of government regulations has increased profits, innovation and the economy.

Agreed. Think abotu it though, vegetarians already have the willpower to ay Im not going to eat this food and only eat this. Then theres the people that say I'm not going to eat bad foods and eat healthy stuff. And then theres the people (like me), who eat anythign thats put in front of them.

If it can provide sustainance to me and won't harm me, I'll eat it. Maybe I'm a heartless bastard and I don't care about what happens to the animals.

Animals like cows are pretty much domesticated now. They exist to feed me. Nothing more, nothing less, and they are doign a great service.

When a cat or dog has a litter, its not uncommon for the breeder to drown a few of the pups or kittens. I bet all of the people that think meat is wrong would think that is wrong too.

I LOVE animals. I put dogs right up there with guns. Love em both to death. Drowning a few pups from a litter would mean the others get more milk and care from the mother. Sounds cruel, but it works.

How about we put ourselves in the animals situation. Would you sacrifice your life for the better of others? To me it depends on quantity of lives being saved and quality of their lives (obviously I'm not going to jump a bullet for osama or his goons). But overall, yes, I think I'd be okay knowing that my death was for a better good.

Likewise, aniamsl deaths are for our better good.

But drowning...guess I'm soft. But hearing it cry dang, I wouldn't sleep.

When I was younger I used to enjoy sitting outside on hot days burnign ants with a magnifying glass. Last week I saw a bunch of freshman looking at a worm outside hte flagpole. So I stomped on it.

But what if there was something more, maybe we are the chickens, the pigs, the cows to another race. How would you feel about being ground into sausage and being put on someones breakfast plate?

well, p8ntball365, if i was ground into sausage and put on someones plate, i suppose id feel warm, with a hint of seasoning, and maybe with some spots a little more done then others

seriously though, they are gonna die either way, i dont condone the fact that they serve unhealthy cows as grade a, but as long as we are superior and we consume more of these animals then you will ever be able to comprehend, then the grinders will still keep turning

                      HMMM.....
Look out for the feelings of cows, chickens and other animals, while starving the planet into the extinction of man? OR kill them and eat. Very difficult situation, especially since we aren't biast or anything.

Go right ahead and die for the couple of uneaten cows, but if you fall, a thousand more will take your place

and thus is the cruel cirlce of life, but dont get me wrong, i like animals. And that was a case...A CASE, as in a SINGLE case. And really, even if this made big news, 90% of Americans wont care while they're chomping down on their sirloin steak, eating some Chickfila, or going to their local bbq place to get some food

technically you can feed more people by farming land rather than raising cows on it.

/\ this is true you can produce something like 500lds of beans to 1 lb of beef on the same amout of land and other stuff.

that said corn is raise to be eaten it needs air and water and it is alive i think there nothing wrong with eating meat just don't kid yourself on where it comes from

PLease stop eating meat. It will just make it cheaper for me! (Laws of supply and demand.)

PETA stands for nothing shot of total "animal liberation". Meaning no pets, fur, animal research, livestock, cheese!

THEY WANT TO TAKE AWAY CHEESE!

Also PETA and some of its directly funded offical sounding research groups love to come out with studies that show that cows have emotions and that eating fish will kill your babies.

SOMETHING IS GOING TO KILL THAT COW/CHICKEN/PIG/WHATEVER! If not us a loin, wolf, virus etc. Stuff dies, deal with it.
