i agree with the supportive parent thing. some of you know how expensive it is to play hockey or select soccer. a $1300 on one gun is nothing when put up against those other sports. so long as the kiddo works at their game and does do something to try to offset the costs (household chores) then thats great for the sport. i do get a bit ticked at the mom that drops her kids off at the store with her amex card and says have a good birthday, but i find myself more upset with how out of touch the mom is with her kid than buying expensive paintball gear.

I agree that it isn't quite black and white. You see, i started playing when I was very young, and had what at the time was a very expensive Automag setup (700 dollars) just before I hit 14. I paid for EVERY cent of it myself, and it wasn't allownace money either (my father was extremely cheap). I just happened to be very good at saving money, and was always doing whatever I could to get it. On the flip-side, I know a kid whose father was a neurosurgeon. His parents could easily afford anything he wanted. Instead, he had to buy, with his own money, a model 98. So, you can see that not all rich kids are spoiled, and not all kids with high-end markers are rich. There are enough bad banannas out there to go around, but some are salvageable.
I also agree with parents supporting their children (provided the kid has potential). If a rich person can afford to support his children, why shouldn't he? I am not talking about 1500 dollars of gear for a first timer, but if a young kid is really good, and the parent can afford it, why not? As a comparison, my parents supported my musical interests with instruments that were certainly not cheap, and now I actually make money with music."My Jell-O is dying in the audience..."

kids who dont know the value of money should not have setups over the amn't of money they get from the toothe-fairy
hate kids who get whatever they want
If it was a humble kid that was very appreciative and gratefull his parents support him enough to spent loads of money to buy him his gear, and he knew there sacrifice (no matter how rich someone is a grand is a grand, money that could better spent elsewhere on something more importent to them then there son's hobby/obsession) I wouldn't mind to much, yet the idea of a 4th grader walking around with something worth then my life, so tempting to knock there undeveloped pre-pubescent boddies to the floor with a swift chop to the throat (james bond style mind you) and running off with there marker sounds tempting....For those with no sense of humow *I am j/k*
Even if I do become rich and have a kid that gets into paintball I know that he's not going to get something for nothing, well maybe because we'd all like to be spoiled as children but I'd put him to hard physical labor on a chain gang for a few months while I break in "his" new toy

Ok.. this is not meant to be offensive to anyone here... its a generalization
One of two things to make you jealous of what others peoples parents bought them.
You worked your butt off to get it... you know what kind of time it took for you to get what you have, and seeign someone else with it who did not have to do that work.. well kind of devalues what you put into it.
You're 25, can't beleive some kid can afford it, and are slightly annoyed that some kid has something as good as you in this game.
Get over it both. Find the marker you like to play with that you can afford, obtain, whatever. I could care less if mommy and daddy bought it for you. I have gone through several markers, and still come back to my e-mag. I like it, Im comfortable with it... its what I choose. Do I get upset when someone else has a $1500 marker.. I could care less. A lot of us should care less too... who cares what the other people on teh field are shooting?"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. Its not" - Dr Suess

I was at the local proshop and this kid and his father was looking for a first gun for him. His dad wound up dropping 2000 on new gear including an IR3 (which was brand new then) and some other high end gear. I was thinking to myself, this is his first gun.

i've seen adults w/ high ends that don't know what they're doing too. it's not just kids.
i got a 10 foot shot at 300 plus fps last saturday from a field team player/ref with a new timmy. he had just "upgraded" from a bko that he couldn't figure out. he swore he chronied it after messing with the reg. i insisted he chrony he was shooting 302, field limit is 280.
i was playing pump. he emptied 3 pods and a hopper, i used 10 rounds. i charged him while he was reloading and we shot each other.
i got a nice bleeder from that hit.
Florida peeps...step up!!

I'm 14 going on 15 real soon. I worked my butt off to get my RT ULE. The most my partents ever got me was my 72/3000 tank. I guess what I'm tring to say is that there is some young people that still pay for the markers.

Yea, not all young kids with nice markers are spoiled.
Believe me, I know the valve of a dolar, I'm turning 14 july 25th and I'm also about to get a Angel A4, but not for my birthday. I've been working my butt off for the past year and have gotten almost enough money for it. I'm going to have to buy it with all my money. I started with a BKO which was boughten (don't know if thats a word) for me but everything else I had to work for.

I remember when I first got into paintball. My parents wasted damn near $600 on me, and a tippmann model 98 (with plenty of other crap). Yeah, It was perchased for me, but after I had learned that I could have gotten a mag with a nice HPA system for less, I felt horrible. I started mowing lawns, and saving up what little money came way way. In the period of a few years, i had a tippmann, two mags, and a 99 cocker. When the divorce hit, and my mother got everything, and kicked me out, I lost all but the model 98. it was time to start over.
Remember what had happend the years behind that, I added what I could to my gun, then parted it out. For the christmas after the divorce (last Xmas) My aunt got me a cheapo spyder Imagine. It shot just fine, and I had some money to put into that, as well. I sold my spyder to be able to afford a new Jackson Guitar, after my old one...well....
I traded my older Van Halen Edition Kramer to another AO'er, plus bash for a valveless mag. I had finally earned my gun, and I still have it. I love it. Sorry for the stupid long winded thing.

I still own my tippmann and im looking to get rid of it to get a good deal on a cocker. My first gun was a gift to get me into paintball, i was like 8, from my parents. My parents bought me and my older brother stingrays (good ole days). I didnt work for those really but i was only 8. Then when my stingray started acting up i needed a new gun to play with. So we went to the proshop and bought a 98 custom. I didnt pay for it then but dang, i sure had to work off more than i should of. it was worth it tho. I pay for all my stuff now which i find kind of rewarding. Id rather work for some DM4 than rather have it givin to me. I meen id take it but id feel more pride in just buying the gun with MY 1300 bucks rather than my parents.
Oh and btw, my family isnt wealthy enuf to even do any of that. I think my parents raised me well.

Well, here goes my opinion.
I was turning 14 when I got my first gun, a Sheridan XTS Nemesis. Paid all of the $250 it took me to get into the sport. Rents thought I was crazy, but since it was MY EARNED MONEY, they didnt care.
I kept that and bought a Spyder Esprit with a few ups....still with ALL MY MONEY.
Sold that and bought my current setup (signature) on eBay for 500. Damn cheap. Funny tho, my rents went crazy for me spending 250, and when I spent 500...boy, they really must have thought I was nuts. None the less, I love the gun to death and will never sell it.
Now to my point. I agree with it being stated before that I hate spoiled kids but I like "supported" kids. I hate those little schisters (german for yeah, figure it out...) running around with high end guns and when they brake "Mommy! Mommy! its broke, fix it. *cry*" Ugh, those kids need to be givin a right good slapping.
Now as for the kids whose parents buy them everything...but the kid actually takes time to learn the gun and APPRECIATE what their parents gave them...then thats cool.
So in short, if they can brake it....they are spoiled.
If they can brake it and FIX IT...then they are just lucky kids.
