how do you punish a fellow player?

    AO,

I got a seriouis question here.

Our team was holding tryouts today and some stuff starting goin down between two players. One player is more experienced and the other is a new player to us, both were trying out.

The new player was shooting in the game and came out of his bunker shooting at an opponent and accidently shot the more experienced player(same team). Needless to say the experienced guy was pissed the hell off.

After the game there was some verbal argument and the experiened guy was yelling about people shooting him all the time, friendly fire. And then he shoots the newer player. Now this kid has a huge welt on his neck (shot from like 5 feet).

I know we all get heated in paintball. I am sure the experienced player felt threatened etc, but still there is no reason for that to happen, after the game is over especially.

Talk amongst the captains is to keep him from playin in tournies this semester, but this screws one of the two teams, as we loose a player. Not sure what else we can do.

Any ideas or thoughts on the matter?

No bashing please, serious thoughts only.

Suspend them, or expell them from the team. That's not very sportsman like. Those kinds of actions would result in point deductions on the team in a tourny, so the player is no good to the team anyways.

I do know the AO sig rules, I just want a free sig pic, that's all!

Just beacause he may be more experienced that the other, doesnt mean he should stay on the team. It seems he can not controll his temper. And your right there is no reason for that to happen, if he cant work as a team I dont see a reason why he should stay on the team. But Ive never been on a team so what do I know.

if you cant suspend him because you need him, fine him. Make him pay like 50 bucks to the team fund. Make that be the standard procedure for things like that.

He sure as hell wouldn't play on my team. Getting hot with a player on a different team is one thing (although still low), but doing that to a team member? He's eiher kicked off, or I'm gone. Those would be my two options if i were in your shoes.

You can start by telling him that the next time he does this, you will call the police. Shooting somebody outside of the confines of the game is assault. It's no different than if he'd punched him. Doesn't matter if it happens on the sidelines or anywhere else.

I hate to say it, but in order to make paintball more legitimate, individuals and teams are going to suffer in the short run. Can you suspend him for half the season?

Thanks for the thoughts, most of you are along the lines with most of the players. The police thing is true, I understand it is assault.

The thing is this kid has never done anything like this since I have known him. He does not usually play like this and was totally a random incident, making it more difficult to work with IMO.

thanks for the info, gonna close this soon as I got enough info so any more thoughts post soons

Although the fine comment is good I dont think that can be implemented at random. But this is a good time to make a rule regarding unsportsmanlike outbursts! Learn from it, develop some form of disciplinary guidlines ranging from minor to severe in punishment.

If I were still doing a college paintball team and had a player like that... even if we needed him or not he would not be playing for at least a semester. Players can be replaced! Obviously it was uncalled for, you say that he is not usually like this, so definately a punishment that tells him that this kind of behavior isnt tolerated by the team, and also tells other team members the same thing. I would say cut him for the semester, allow him to return after that period.

To be more accurate, it's assult AND battery.

even more true. Battery is what gets you...not the assault (you can assault someone without even touching them--i found this out the hard way)

kick him off the team or suspend for a season

anything like that will get ur sponsorships revoked INSTANTLY.

i know we got a lecture from cousins about a crappload of stuff we had to follow. We risked loosing our sponsorship even if we cursed (proved hard to do )

if your serious and want to continue playing tourntaments, i would either kick him off, or suspend for a season, because if its not treated harshly, whats to stop him from doing it again, and although it might have been random, its very possible that he might do something like this again, or worse, and have BOTH players incapacitated.

is it just me or are you picking a newbie over a teammate who has been established. no saying what he did was right but if some nowbie who wanted to be on my team shot me in practice because he wanted to rambo i'd be mad too. i'm not sure what all went down but i'm not sure i could play with a team of poeple i don't trust and respect and a move like that would kill both of those. i wouldn't stand for a team member who no control of their marker or a captin who would tell me i'm sitting out and watching said newbie play. I have a 3 man team for a reason i haven't found 2 more guys how will play true team ball, as it stand i have 2 people i can trust to cover my butt and not to shoot me cause they want to0 look cool. just my input

ps I'm a psych major and sometimes you have to look at the situation not the person we all do things we wouldn't normally do when we feel disrespected, i may not kknow what about your team but you aid the guy is not like that normally.....just 2cents
