I agree that it really depends on which gun you are using, what size tank you have, and what sort of PB you are playing.

A-5 with a big old 3000psi tank (88 long etc)and you'll want a good drop. A Timmy with a 45/45 and a Unimont is great. And so on...

You can also run and shoot a lot easier and more accurate since your gun is more stable against your body.

But...this isn't exactly true for everbody. Like I said, this all depends on what the individual feels comfortable with.

Drops suck, they will always suck, my gun is perfectly balanced with an asa directly mounted to the frame and a 45/4500 tank, If I had a drop my gun would be directly in my face, my elbow would be sticking out (You have to bend it to compensate for it being closer to your body).

Height does matter, if you come around a bunker with a gun 20" tall with everything, versus someone with a gun 10-12" tall that's a good chunk that you're exposing that you don't need to, I see people with big guns try to snap shoot and they can't and get shot up in the gun. Having a small light gun makes it so easy to snap shoot and switch hands. Having it light and balanced makes it even better. I use a 16" barrel... not because it's more accurate or I get more distance or whatever, I use it because it feels better, I aim by feel, and a 16" barrel feels better, as does an ASA mounted directly to the gun.

Lets see your tests shartley, all I hear is you rambling on about how drops aren't bad.

Just try it, it'll feel better, guarentee it.

With running and shooting like clare said, the gun is held more like a rifle, your arm is extended and RELAXED, allowing you to shoot faster and easier, you can hold the gun more stable as it's, again, more like a rifle, longer-shorter (height), with a small platform to mount the gun against your shoulder (tank), try to run and shoot with a 7" drop putting your tank underneath your gun, you can't do it.

If it was preference why does every single tournament player use a unimount/asa/rail+asa/microdrop ? Watching playing styles from before, and now. Players are much more coordinated and have much better gun skills, watching guys from 99-2000-2001 you see very sloppy play, shooting out the left side but still holding it with your right hand. All of these things including drops, players got smarter and stopped using drops and started using what was stated before, because it is better.

Everytime I dove with a drop it would bend. So I took it off and never had a problem with diving again.

So you're telling me that I play better with an on/off, as opposed to with my drop?

Because, *newsflash*, I don't. I play better with a drop.

use whatever you want. try out both ways to see what you like, and then make your own decision.

that being said: i use a rail with my dynaflows, and a medium shocktech drop with my screwin tanks(use a rail/asa on my vert frame though) it all comes down to preference. my roommate cant shoot his mag without a drop because his hand is in the wrong position. yet when shooting a dm4, he can use a rail. its how you hold the marker, what position you play, how you play, and type of marker/trigger

That is because you would be holding the marker wrong. And guess what? My RT Pro is perfectly balanced with a drop on it with my 68/4500 Flatline and drop. So I guess that blows your argument there out of the water.

It all depends on the size of tank and where the center of balance is. I prefer the gun to balance inline with the grip frame, so whatever drop/rail will work best to balance the gun is what I will use.

EDIT - Some of you fools need to stop bashing people because they don't see eye to eye with you. As other people said, there is room enough in this game for variations/players of every kind. Afterall, isnt variety the spice of life? IMHO there is NO room for asshats who get all militantly evangelical about their playing style. Just shut up and play would ya!?

Shartley I understand you are passionate about this, but really what was the thing to do a little while ago, really isnt the thing to do now. Things change due to research, developement and testing. All the top Pros use rails. There must be something in it. Are they all wrong?

People often say, "but it makes the gun sooo long"

                        what???

A drop is like an inch or two, so thats only an inch or two longer. Buy a shorter barrel. Its worth it for your hand to sit flush to the grip. Hehe you can actually hold the gripframe! Giving more stability when holding and firing the gun.

People say "but I like the gun to be close to me, making me tighter to the barracade"

                        what????

Your hand is bent over (if using a drop) looking like a scene from the Blue Nun YMCA bar, meaning your elbow is sticking out, or your hopper. Now with a warp feed this doesnt matter as you can tilt the gun sufficiently to get your arm around the tank, but with centre feed......

If you have a drop, what I find is players lean backward, tilt there head round the back of their gun, do the camp wrist thing, struggle to run and shoot accuratly, and resort to sticking their fingers in the grip and wiggling them about with little real control.

No offence Mr Shartley Sir. Not personal to you.

Who cares why ppl decide to use or not use a drop. I prefer unimount or Rail over a drop though.
