But the USSR did not miss the industrial revolution; they went through the industrial revolution. Russia didn't have a strong peasant economy and did not go through the period of bourgeois capitalism and wasn't industrialized (which as long as the others were meet this could take place with the revolution)

When you said the USSR, did you mean Russia, for the USSR wasn't formed until like 1923 or so, so by then Russia was beginning to become industrialized and became industrialized under the USSR?

Why do you think that I follow or believe in communist beliefs. I am a Russia history major, the study of it goes with the territory, but I by no means believe in it.

With a system based on communism the USSR would never have outproduced the west since the system goes against the nature of man.

I might pick up one of the books you mentioned. Just finished Germs, Guns, and Steel which presents a theory on why Eurasian culture came to dominate the world. The theory present was not one of race. It was actually quite fascinating and starts with the premise that all humans in every area of the world are equal in intelligence, innovation, etc. Need some new reading and never thought about a book on Russian history (except for the siege of Stalingrad that I read awhile ago).

No see that isn't saying that communism would work or is a workable system. There is no way in the world that a communist system would work. The only say possible is if you take 1,000 new born babies stick them on an island in the middle of no where and let them do there own. Even then maybe human nature would kick in, but if it is possible for a communist system to work, that is IMO the only way. But since that will never happen, I just say it is impossible to create a communist system.

You have got to realize that the soviets were not building a communist system; they were in a long stage of slow progression to reach the communist state in the end.

They used the word communism as sort of a motivational word to push the society along, sort of like the US's use of the word democracy, even though there can never be a pure democracy. But that is a weak example for the communism is further away from USSR, then democracy for the US.

The idea of communism went out the window when Lenin came to power, or when the revolution took place.

If anything when I said the USSR would surpass the US if they had their ducks in order, they would have had a socialist system at best, but never a communist system. For Socialism is a workable system, and it is one of the many systems on the way to communism, like democracy is a step too.

Still Waiting?

Hey CB,

I posted proof that after Stalin, there were still war and fear mongers in the USSR. Kruschev most definitely attempted to instill fear at home and abroad in a USSR vs teh west attitude, kind of what Castro is still doing. You stated Stalin was the last. You were wrong. I am waiting for you to admit this. After all you did say you will admit when you are wrong!

What?? How can telling the UN that the USSR will crush you, installing fear in the minds of the soviets.

But by relying on tht one quote you forget Krushchev's speech to Ike where they agreed that tensions between the two were two great and both sides will let off and let the best system win.

Or you forget Khruschev's general strong releations of "friendship" with the West, (taking the U2, Juipiter missles, cuban missles, and bay of pigs into account too)

You have to post more then one speech by one person directed in a maner and a reason that it was given, to use as proof of anything.

Did you read your own link? It states that no one knows what the US shipped there. These were some things believed sent based on a soldiers notes. Those are facts right?

There you are wrong. The KGB has widely been misinterpreted to be secret police. They were actually just facilitators for families hoping to move to the eastern section of the USSR. Much like our government encouragement for the settlement of the west. (cheap shot....couldn't resist:))
