Labor is cheaper , therfore less cost to make , therfore can sell for larger profit.

The basic cheap labor idea is a myth. (sure cheap labor plays a part in it, but the over all idea of the manufactoring there because of cheap labor is a myth)

It boils down to a basic micro economics problem of cross comparisons of productivity of two nations in international trade, (in this case the US and China).

To keep it simple, for every unit of input (ALL input) the US can not put out more export then China can. Hence why the US allows China to produce stuff that China can more efficently.

Now there are things that the US can produce more efficently, hence why they produce this stuff, not China.

If you want to look it up somewhere, check a micro econ site, or a micro econ text book, in the chaptor of International Trade. Or go on google and type in effects of international trade or anything to that effect.

          Edit, found a great site

So now you are an expert on China/Economics too?

Cheap labor is a huge part of it. So is the lack of regulations in China: No EPA, OSHA, etc... Make what you want, the cheapest way you can and screw the environment! In the USA, our production costs will almost always be higher (We actually care about our environment here..a little ). Chinese production is not so enticing when you take into account shipping costs and the falling dollar. If Bush keeps letting the dollar fall, we can make the differential much less! I for one am in favor of the weak dollar. Yes, imports will cost us more, but we will be able to export more and hopefully reduce our trade imbalance!

Never said I was an expert.

And labor is an input (hence why I said it played a part), but it is not the only input. Hence why the idea of cheap labor is the reason is a myth.

remember though, the cost of manufacturing must be a lot cheaper. They need to be so cheap that they can overcome the costs of shipping to the US. If they were not so cheap, the cost would be the same or equal to those products made in the USA (altho these days they are few) and people would buy domestic products instead.

A hundred years ago imported stuff was like gold!

Lack of tariffs. I'm not gonna go off on a tangent about it, but this is the only type of tax I'd support fully and it's the last thing you'll ever see proposed as a source of income. Huge, huge mistake... Turns the economy into garbage.

                          Cheap Labor.

My SPyder was made in Taiwon. $69, aluminum, blue purple fade Anoed. How much would that cost to make here? Xmags go for 20 times that much. If Tom wanted to sell out. He could have them made in CHina for alot less. People here would (and do) lose jobs and CHinese Factories would (and do) gain the ability to Manufacture Xmags or other stuff. Which could put AGD and does put other companies out of buisiness. Since China rarely recognizesz international copywrite laws. Thats why you see so many knock off products come from China.

Money saved plus markup = profit.

The question is though why people do it. If people realized all their neighbors were loosing jobs and CHina was gaining economic military capacity for a war with the US. Than they wouldnt do it.

The cost of cheap goods far outways the risks of feeding a economicaly collapsed nation with a population of 2.3 Billion people living in a country the size of the US.

There are 2.3 Billion hungry communized people living in a small country. Who are willing to do anything to try and increase their standard of living. SO they can have food on the table, Blankets in Bed, extra cloths and shoes.

This is a huge problem that WILL bite us in the backside in the future.

The current rage of exporting jobs to China needs to stop now, if for nothing else, National Security.
