WHY is everything made in China

National Security reasons?

If it wasn't for the fact that China or other countries make a great deal of our stuff, we would go back to the one pair of pants two pair of shirts, and that is about all we own. We could not afford to buy those things if made in the US while affording the rising price of everything else now made in the US.

Believe it or not, it is survival of the fittest, it is capitalism at its best. The US can not produce certain goods as good as other countries, hence they don't produce them. Cut off international trade, you have mass inflation, mass over use of limited natural resources, and a whole bunch of problems.

Why don't we have strong tariffs, because they are basically illegal. The US just got hit with a law suit because of them, and will get hit by one thanks to the tariff on Canadian lumber.

They are not illegal. They are against the rules of the WTO. Big difference. The US lost an arbitration hearing with the EU over tariffs and now face punitive tariffs against US goods in the billions of $s. This is why the WTO is a very bad idea. The case the US lost was not lost on merits, but technicalities.

This is not capitalism at it's best. That would be countries negotiating their own trade agreements, not being bound by a 3rd party. This would be survival of the fitest.

The buying power of the US is unmatched. Yet we are unable to throw around our true might due to these types of organization. If so, your other argument is mute.

P.S. There are not 2 billion+ in China!

China doesnt have the labor regulations the United States do.

According to the World Factbook at WWW.CIA.GOV, China's population as of July 2002 was 1,284,303,705. So unless ALL of China got real busy this past year you are wrong.

Realiza that in less then 20 years, India will surpass China as the most populated nation on earth!

I'm a firm believer in, anything made in China sucks.

The quality of most of the crap that comes from there is horrible. Thats true with a real lot of the products comng out today though... except uh.. agd of course... er... yeah

China is a relatively small country related to the population when you look at populated land. 90% of the population lives on 10% of the land or something near that.

Most of China is uninhabited or uninhabitable.
