McCarthy was a Senator. You are a college student. He overzealously attacked some, but did ferret out some legitimate targets. You know the old expression about the road to hell being paved with good intentions, well here was a case in point.

He's intentions was to win a second term in congress. This comes from his close confident who was the one who wrote the bogus WWII article and the one who who told about his intentions before he made the speech in Wheeling.

He went after school teachers who seemed to far to the left for him, he went after people he didn't like. If you crossed him you mysteriously appeared on his list (of which he never showed anyone).

He's intentions were bad from the beginnings.

I can not believe that semi rational people would show this guy as anything but an evil man who ruined the lives of so many innocent people.

I have read this post several times... contributed a few.

What I notice the big difference between the Republican party is there are some people who will admit to being quite a bit right of center (who can still point right towards some of the zealots and say they are nuts). They are proud to be a ways away from center.

Why is it that we ask what defines a democrat and we get this run towards - I'm not left - I'm center... right.

I will love this next election, as Bush tries to defend that he really is a Republican and Clark tries to argue that he really is a Democrat - can't wait to see the Green party move in and steal Clark's votes. The Democrats have a serious problem, they have moved too far to center and lost their far left to the Green party. The Republicans have not argued that they are center (even as they have moved) and have kept the insane right. The only chance the Democrats have in future elections (I may be overstating myself) is to get a good Libertarian candidate to take away as many votes from the Republicans as the Green party takes from them :) .

Why doesn't those links mention the innocent teacher in Northern New York (I do think that is the location) who was forced to lose her job because she pleaded the fifth. Something the New York Education System said would happen.

Kennedy was scared that McCarthy would turn on him, so he couldn't do anything about it. The only person who could have done something was Ike, but he let it go. McCarthy was already too deep into his lie by Kennedy's term that he couldn't do anything about it.

I am completely shocked that you all are backing and supporting a traitor and a criminal to our country. He deserved to die the lonely and drunken death that he did.

McCarthy did an important thing for this country by going after the communist infiltrators and spies that had worked their way into this country. The agents of the USSR that he disrupted and caught were later revealed by Russian Intelligence themselves as correct, albiet some decades later. The man did a service for our country and made it stronger. However, in doing that he accused plenty of people that were innocent and did ruin the lives of many. This is of course unfortunate and regrettable but sometimes the cost of freedom is dispoportionatly high on some. There are several lessons to be learned here to make sure that McCarthy's quest need never be repeated.

I think you hit the nail on the head! The trend has been for the past few elections (except for Clinton versus Dole) for the guy with the third party element against him to lose. Lets look at Bush versus Clinton. Who did Perot screw over? Bush. Who did Nader screw over in a extremely close election? Gore. If the democrats want to win they have got to convince Nader to stay out of it. He will get even less votes if he tries again since his support can now see how much they screwed themselves by taking away votes from Gore.

Perot ran in that election if memory serves.

He didn't do anything, but he was there.

And I don't think Nader is going to affect the election much. He's just like Perot, his first shot was his biggest hit. I doubt Nader will have much of an impact this time around, UNLESS the election is really close just like the last one, and then he might matter a little.

McCarthy made up the WHOLE story. It is documented fact, something which many fail to realize. He is credited with saying that I need to make up a story in order to secure votes in my home state.

Why do most historians of this time period believe like I am saying? Why does the history channel have a show just about it, and they point out the same thing I am telling you?

McCarthy is something that just can't ever be spoken to with Liberals. God himself could come down from heaven and explain the whole thing completely to the satisfaction of liberals and they still wouldn't budge.

Look at you, and you can do is shout "Hoax" "Made up" and "Evil". It's not even worth talking about. I've done it for years and while most arguements I have with liberals tends to end in a "agree to disagree: fashion McCarthy never does. They'll sit there and stamp their feet and scream Hoax at me until I just want to punch them in the face. I'll never understand why he instills such a blind raging hatred in liberals that they can't speak civiling to another person about him. It's one thing to hate Clinton, but I don't break into convulsions when someone says he did good things as President. I can even name somethings that he did that I'm ok with. But McCarthy? No way. It's easier to defend Saddam Hussain and Stalin then it is McCarthy when talking to liberals.

"Polish troops discovered an ammunition depot on September 29 near the region of Hilla and there were four French-made Roland-type missiles," Eugeniusz Mleczak said. "It is not the first time Polish troops found ammunition in Iraq but to our surprise these missiles were produced in 2003," Mleczak said. The Roland anti-aircraft system is a short-range air defence missile in service with at least ten countries, including France and Germany. It is mobile, usually mounted on a vehicle, and defence experts say the missiles are highly effective against aircraft attacking at low and medium altitude. Under a strict trade embargo imposed by the United Nations, Iraq was barred form importing arms since the invasion of Kuwait in 1990. Mleczak said Polish troops were notified about the missiles by a local Iraqi, who received a reward for the information.../

The location of WMD is only a bribe/reward away from being found. Now that Iraqi's are starting to cash in, I wonder how long Saddam will last.
