First off Jah. They are cops and I am pretty willing to bet that you would certainly fell differently about them if they were at your house at three am after you called 911 because there was an intruder.

As for the no skating law let me explain a fairly interesting concept. The cops do not make the rules. They inforce the rules.

So with that in mind it is useless to complain to to try to talk them out of it. They are just doing their jobs.

If you want these rules to change then the next time a cop stops you ask them where in the code it says that skateboards are not allowed. If he cannot cite the exact location then technically you can continue using them.

If he does then stop using them, thank the police officer and walk away to your local library. Ask the libraryian if they have a copy of the law books for your county. They should. Research the law and organize a movement against it.

Speak at community board meetings. Ask the ruling body to revise the rules to allow skateboard transportation allowable but tricking and such on certain public areas illegal. Also ask the county or community to look into the feasibilty of creating a skatepark for the kids to use.

My point is this. At 15 or 16 or 18 or just about any teen we were more likely to go of and scream and cause a scene or do something that would pretty much guarantee that the adults wuold never listen to us.

What's funny, is that adults are more childlike then they would readily admit. Unless things are presented to us in a proper and acceptable format we often refuse to listen.

I wouldn't mind trying to help you get this under way. Send me an email. Let's chat.
Return to the free market. Get rid of all government regulations and let society make it's own decisions. Time and again the relaxing of government regulations has increased profits, innovation and the economy.

i have had plenty of experiences with the police. 8-9. But i have never gotten a ticket. I just remember so say "Sir, ..." or "..., sir"
Few weeks ago i was yappin on my cell phone (i hate it when people do that) doing about 60 in a residential 25. Saw the cop got it down to almost legal before he could react. It pays to be on the ball, they are human to and have reaction times just like us. he pulled me over and asked me if i knew why i said "yes, sir" he said he hadnt gotten the radar on me but it was obvious i was going way over posted, but he let me go with a verbal warning. Had he searched my car i would have been in a world of hurt.
no illegal substances. but i dont think the law likes open bottles in minors vehicles. no. i dont drink and drive. but i had an open bottle stuck in my gearbag.

i should also mention that i currently belong to a military police unit in the reserves... and my car sports a backseat full of gear and a bumper sticker that says 79th MP.
i dont like signatures. so i turned them off. AO is much better this way.

Do you know why I pulled you over?

Was it because I was going so fast I was about to travel back in time or because I changed lanes without signaling?

Hey I'm all for it, if you break the law you should be nailed. But then so should the next guy and the guy after that. I have NEVER gotten out of a speeding ticket, yet my sister and law mensiones her name and it's " try to follow the speed limit next time ma'am" Her grandfather owns like 1/2 of polk county and is VERY wealthy.

The other thing that I though was funny, when I got pulled over last time for a bad taillight the officer inquired as to what I was doing with a Mag light in my front seat. It's a 6 cell Because I was so irritated about the spot light coming through my rearview I almost sliped and said "nothing, why? are you jealous of my light?" I betcha that warning woulda been a ticket...
I guess the reason he asked that was because it was 3 am and I was shacking like I had been caught. Which he also asked about. Thing is I knew I had a blood sugar related prolbem at the time and later found out it was actually hypertension. I was midly upset though that he had to point that out. I don't get nervous, I just had a problem.

Speaking of, on fix-it-tickets. Can cops give you a ticket the first time they find a problem with your vehicle or do they warn ya just for being nice?

I guess in the end it was all warranted, but I wish the cops didn't have to do somethings they do. I'm sure a many cop has been safed by these tactics if you like, but to us non leathal citizen it's a real pain. Kinda goes along the lines of treat others the way you want to be treated. I want to be treadted with respect and so does the officer, but their training does everything but respect the person they are pulling over.

If you have been pulled over for a violation of the state traffic statutes then by all leagle rights you can get a ticket. Officers will usually make up their mind about writeing a ticket on several factors.
1: If the infraction is deserving of a ticket instead of a warning, ie. 70 in a 50 or the like.
2: If your past record reflects on the fact that you have not learned a lession. ie. you have had several tickets in the past and are still doing it, or that officer remembers you from the past.
3: Your attitude at the time of the stop. If you are courtious and polite and apologize, you may not get one. Maybe you will but it always helps to be nice.
4: If that officer has met his quota for the time frame he is working in. Yes some departments have to deal with quota's of tickets. Usually it is not the officer's fault. A small town that likes getting revinue from traffic tickets will sometimes decide that each officer must write so many tickets a month or a week or what ever. This really sucks and most officers hate it but if that is what they have to do to keep their job, then they will do it.

As for the respect part, most training sessions I have attended on traffic stops have taught nothing but how to be curtious and respect the driver of a vehicle. Now if an officer chooses not to be that way that is his/her choice. Unfortunatlly many officers find themselves going on a "Power Trip" when on a stop. That usually ends up with the driver of the vehicle getting mad and something as trivial as a traffic ticket ends up as something much worse.

Try being polite to an officer and they will usually be polite to you. If you are sick or are haveing a problem like that tell them. It is better to be upfront with us then to try to hide it. That is when we start getting suspicious about things.
