    Sam you are right.

A professor told me once while I was in college that if you are not a democrat when you are young and in school, you are heartless. However if you are not a republican by the time you are 30 you are foolish.

i'm not even going to get into the implications of that, sam
LOL You would actually be very close in your "implications". And I am not ashamed of it.

Heh. I must be one of those "heartless" people then. I've always been on the right/republican side of things.

what causes this change, then? as you said, becoming a father, having a family, having a house, etc etc. these things are very large commitments, i think we can all agree on that. and as such, these commitments tend to overtake political standpoints.

i guess the thing you were wrong about is that young people's left views are what benefit THEM and not everyone else. the left is really focused on benefitting everybody while forcing many to sacrifice something (whether it's the right to own an ak47 or higher taxes). the right is focused on benefitting certain individuals (capital gains tax cuts, etc) while leaving others completely ignored.

you'll probably argue that capital gains tax cuts, for example, while benefit only certain individuals, are created to benefit the country as a whole. i don't want this to turn into an economics debate, so i'll already acknowledge that that is your standpoint. however, just look at most of the right's agenda: it's about government having less "interference" with the lives of individuals. this agenda OBVIOUSLY will only benefit those who can actually make it without this "interference."

                  ummmm i'm done rambling now
