Yes, that is true. Christianity did come out of the Catholic faith, but from a current point of view they have develop into their own respective religions. Yes Catholics are followers of Christ as are Christian; we just go about it in different ways. That is all I was doing. It really doesn't matter a whole lot though if I did include them or not lumped under Christianity as it is today. I should have said something like Wesleyans, Baptists, Catholics, etc. The only difference between us is that we all view Christ in a different way. I really did not want this to get so far off topic. This thread was meant to be about the movie and not the differences among different views of Christianity. I just listed Catholics because it was one I could think of. So, yes, Catholics are Christians and I guess I should have placed them together but all I meant was to list different "religions" and that it didn't matter who you were or what you believed, Christ died for YOUR sins, no matter what your religious orientation is.

well, as a jew I had a lot of problems with this movie. Although I have not seen it, and probably never will, I have talked to other people who have.
For one, this movie portrays jews very poorly, like a mafia or something. This move is also very inacurate. From what I have heard this movie goes way beyond the new testament, to what some people, probably Mel, thought happened. These inacuraces do not help any body. While you might leave the movie being proud of being christian, other people, especially impressionable children, may leave with a hatred for jews. In my view if just one in 1000 people leave that theatre with hate, then the movie was bad. Mel cannot make a "historical" movie and leave what he wants and take out what he does not want.that is such a chipmunk mentalityComment

How can you say all that if you haven't seen it?
Anywho, it's ok, us Catholics like attention anyway.

Please delete your post and don't voice opinions on a movie you haven't seen, only "talked" about with other people. If i have listened to everything someone had said i wouldn't have done alot of things in life i loved to do. So until you have seen the movie and can make a review based on YOUR OWN views don't post.Comment

How could you even make a comment like that having not even seen the movie. There is no way that you could even know or understand what that movie portays without having seen it. That movie in no way shape or form makes Jews out to be like the mofia or anything else like that. What you said does not make any sense whatsoever and in my opinion is just a sign of ignorance on your part. Also the movie does not add or subtract anything from the story of Christ crucificion. It shows it very acurately and the way that it should be shown. Not watered down for people who can't handle the fact that Christ death was very violent. That is the way it happened and the way that the Church as whole knows it to have happened along with a whole bunch of historical fact to back it up. So, until you have either seen the movie don't make a dumb comment like that just because you heard from a person who heard it from someone else who in turn heard a rumor about the movie. If you want to know the truth go out and see it, don't talk about something you know nothing about.Last edited by polorboy; 02-26-2004, 02:56 PM.Comment

I could not find a single discrepancy with the movie. NOT ONE. In fact, to avoid seeming anti-Semetic, Mel chose not to put subtitles when Cassius remarked that "His blood is on our hands, and the hands of our children." Go read the gospels from the last supper to His resurrection, then see the movie. I challenge you to find one instance where the movie added or deleted something to make it more anti-semetic. If anything, it was less. For one, this movie portrays jews very poorly, like a mafia or something. This move is also very inacurate. No one should have a hatred of Jews for the killing of Christ, it was what needed to happen and what had been foretold. If they hadn't killed Him, he would not have been the Messiah, just a liar or a lunatic.- There's no replacement for displacement.

ok...the judas figure then. i.e..where would christianity be without someone turning jesus in and therefore causing him to die as a martyr for our sins? basically...christianity would not exist without the judas figure.Originally posted by polorboy
If it wasn't Judas, it would have been someone else.
christians should praise judas, then, because if judas didn't exist, their precious (not being sarcastic) religion wouldn't exist either.Comment

This was a movie review. I realize it didn't even start out without interjecting personal views into it but then it never got back on track either. And it continues to deteriorate. If you cannot walk the fine line between review of the movie and your personal views this thread is destined to hit a brick wall.Comment
