I dont think you can call it anti-semetical. The jews were just the ones who were there, but any Christian knows that it was us who drove the nails in his hands.

Gonna go see it tomorrow night with my girlfriend.

You said feel free to post a rebuttal, so let me say this:

We (Catholics) do not pray to saints, we ask them to pray on our behalf. Similar to how you said you ask your pastor friend to pray for you.

I didn't know movie reviews had protestant preaching in it. Next on Ebert and Roper: Disney's new movie, and how it is bad due to no Jesus, Catholics aren't Christians, and we aren't saying anything bad but we say it anyways and try to cover it up by saying it isn't because we believe in Christ and we are never wrong and if you don't like it then your going to hell!!!! Polorboy, thanks for the underlying lesson in protestant evangelicalism

Yes, me being a former Catholic, I used to pray to saints on our behalf, sorta asking others to pray for us, same with Mary, who protestants at my school constantly say Catholics are idol worshipers. This is the exact reason(besides some major personal reasons) why I can't stand churches and their constant bickering between each other. Just makes me sick.

Also, more problems I have with it. Merchandising. Have you seen the trinkets that they are selling for the PoC like praying on Christians beliefs? Kinda reminds me of the Bible where Jesus is turning over merchant stands in the temple. Thats all Christianity has become today, selling beliefs for acceptance into a paradise after death. Oh don't get me started on Christian singers that crossed over or do it for the money.

(I added this post also because everybody seems to be speaking their mind)

The movie was awesome. After it ended, everyone in the theatre was totally quiet. My friends and I got outside, and didn't know what to say, so we just stood there for a few minutes.

Very powerful movie. I don't think a lot of people realize how much Jesus suffered.

Another thing: The movie was NOT completely accurate to the gospels. Some creative liscence was taken, ie Satan appearing(I thought it was so cool how you can't really tell if its a man or a woman), the bird pecking the guy's eye's out. I dont think he could have made it completely accurate though. He did a great job of filling in the blanks, especially with the flashbacks.

Two thumbs up from Ebert, Roepert, and ERut.

PS: Interesting: the hands that you saw nailing Jesus' hand to the cross are Mel Gibson's hands...

As far as the bird pecking the eyes.... that was very common. Although not mentioned in the specific story of Christ's crucifixion, it was one the torture effects associated with being hung on a cross.

Get over it Mateo, I said I was wrong and what I know about Catholicism is what I know from my parents (since they both grew up Catholic) and from other sources such as studying religions in school. Anyway, it really doesn't matter what I think about Catholics, so get over yourself and don't worry about it. As for me thinking that just because I am a Christian therefore I am never wrong, you couldn't be more wrong yourself. The whole point of Christianity is that we are all "wrong" and none of us can ever get it "right". Just becuase I beleive in a savior that died for my sins so that I do not have to pay for them like Christ did does not in any way make me think that I am better, smarter, or always right.

About your saying that Christianity (that includes Catholics you know ) is selling beleifs so that people can get into paradise after death. Well, isn't that what Catholic preists (not all, but a lot) did before the Protestant Reformation? Didn't they sell what was called "Indulgences" so that your dead relatives could get out of purgatory and get into heaven? I do not think that any Christian singer or any Christian organisation is selling entrance into heaven as you imply. They are people just like you and me and they also need to make a living doing something and if that is selling jewlery that has to do with The Passion of Christ then let them. I am sure you would be doing something similar if you were in their position. I am sure that you need to make money to own a house, buy food, pay for insurance. So, if you think that people making money be selling things marketed towards Christians is a bad thing and that they should stop and live out on the street then you should try and apply that same concept to yourself. If they aren't allowed to make a living then you shouldn't either. When Jesus destroyed the market inside the temple that was not because Jesus thought that it was bad to sell things, it was that they were selling things inside the actual church that had absolutaly nothing to do with the church. They were most likely selling more than pots and food stuff, there were probably a few "pimps" there selling off their women also. That is why Jesus destroyed the market place, is becuase the Church building is not meant to be a store, it is a place of worship and a place were people go to pray to God.

Can we please get this back on track and stop trying to start a dumb debate here over something that I said that had no meaning at all. Now there has been a trhead started because I didn't at first list Catholics and Christians together in a list that really didn't mean anything.

                          Saw it today

The fact that it is probably what really happened, the amount, if not more, suffering that was endured, is a true fact, makes it a powerful movie. I would not reccomend it for the faint of heart

                            WOW

This is by far the most powerful movie I have ever seen, its not a movie but an experience! I felt like dirt after the movie but at the same time I realized just how much God really loves us. I don't know how Mel Gibson did it but nothing even comes close to the power of this movie. I thought that the captions would be a problem but it flowed nicely and was it just me or did it seem "natural" that they spoke in Aramaic(sp) I can't see where anyone could think this movie was anti-jewish, this movie was about the overwhelming love of the Christ and the sacrifice he made for ALL of us.
                            GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

                              I liked it.

In all honesty nothing really got to me except for when his hands where nailed to the cross.

To the person who is upset about how the Jewish people are portrayed, it really isn't as horrid as you think. The movie was very good.

I liked the movie a lot. Very powerful and (no one has used this word yet) INTENSE! I cried when the mother kissed Jesus's feet. (I dunno, I kinda think it is interesting to see what part of the movie people cried during....why is that?)

Let us do some interpretations now.

Satan's appearances: interesting, visually interesting character and before entering the movie i hadn't even thought about how satan could be implemented

Satan and his babY: A lot of people i talked to had no idea what this was all about. I think that this part showed great reflection and irony. I believe at that part Jesus had just began his suffering and preparation for crusifiction. This was the beginning of his death. Satan was holding a baby of Satan and evil. I think this symbolized the birth of evil. I just thought it was interesting how this symbol was a reflection of the end of Christ and the beginning of evil. I saw this right away.

Satan after Jesus died: I kinda missed this part, I was whispering to my girlfriend. But was Satan screaming or yelling or what right after Jesus cried? What do you all think about this and what did it mean?

BTW why did Mel want his hands to be the one hammering the nails?

The whole movie I was just thinking, "How in the world do these actors do this (such as the Roman's that whipped Jesus)?"

What do you all think those above examples (and others) meant?
