THere's plenty of proof pointing to the existence of Jesus the Messiah. PLENTY of historical references to a man born in Bethlehem named Yeshua. Please don't make those unsubstantiated claims.

Historical references to Yeshua:

-A Jew named Matthew (a tax collector).
-A Gentile named Luke (a doctor and noted historian.)
-A Jew named John (fisherman)
-A Jew named Peter (also a fisherman)
-A Jew named James (the brother of Yeshua)
-A man named Mark, whose mother was Jewish, and whose Father was Greek
-A Jewish historian named Josephus
-A man named Celsus (Origen quoted Celsus)
-A historian named Tertullian
-A passage from Baraitha Bab. Sanhedrin 43a
-Historical work by Tacitus
-A historian named Suetonius
-Julius Africanus that recounts the account of darkness over the known world at the same time of Yeshua's crucifixition

I could go on, but there's plenty of historical references to Jesus the Messiah (Christ.) Just thought I'd let you know.

Some of you make it sound like only "bible thumpers" like this movie and all jewish people are terribly offended by it. Speaking as an ardent athiest(boo, hiss, I know I know) I thought the movie was very very well done. It was well acted and intrequing(sp). The depiction of Jesus as a muscular, tan, black haired, Middle Easterner was excellent. Too many times Jesus is protrayed as a pale, skinny, blonde haired, white guy. I also thought the apolosals(sp again) and Satan were very well casted. Seeing as I am unbiased about religion, I paid close attention to anything that would seem anti-Semetic. I found nothing. The Jewish high priest at the time, Chiaphus, is historically known to be a brutal, uncompromising man. It should be no suprise that he demanded cruisifixion to somebody he thought was blaspheming. The problem with movies like this is they get the religious zealots all riled up and stupid arguments like what is going on in here happen. I wish religious people realised how goofy they sound sometimes.

I have jewish friends, and they take no offence in it whatsoever, and one of which gets offended if a jewish person makes a jewish joke.

Correct me if im wrong but didn't Mel Gibson pay for the movie HIMSELF, meaning he can do what ever he wants to with HIS money. And if anyone watches the news, he also said he didn't make the movie to cause controversary, but to express his beleifs, and if people liked it than great but if not, it was just something he really wanted to do. So in all actuality he didn't really even exspect it to be so popular, but it became one of the richest movies ever, if not the richest
