hey, i bought battlefield 2 but before i open it up and install it maybe i should make sure it will work on my comp good.
here are my specs:
2.4 GHz
512 MB
128 MB NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
80 GB hard Drive

the only thing im worried about is the video card.
i play hl2 and get about 80 fps constant, but BF2 looks like it requires a more upgraded computer.
anyways, if i lower the game settings will i run fine w/o lag or choppy frames?

i run mine at low and on big levels it lags a bit. nothing to bad but enough to make me nuts

i ahve a gig of ram 2.0ghz 128 ati card

when i run the game it usally needs at least 550,000 K's soo make sure that you close everything but the game to make sure you have enough ram.

for the processor thats fine

you may not be able to put the setting high with that graphics card

If you run EVERYTHING at low with NO Anti-Aliasing it may run... but you'll probably get some lag cause the maps are HUGE and the 512 might give you some issues.

so you think my best bet would be to return it, b/c i dont want to play a game thats all choppy or laggy.

I've got a 3ghz proccessor, 1gig of ram, and the same video card, I tun everything at low or off except the terrain view range I have all the way up, and it usually runs pretty smooth.

For a sniper rifle it accuracy is pitiful.

ditto, i love snipping, but i truely feel i hit the mark far more often than the game says i hit the mark...i hope they tweak it in the next patch too. Plus, somehow i doubt that if you take a .50cal round to your center mass, your going to walk away from it, but alas i see plenty do just that.

Well, It seems i may not be playing for a while seeing as the only comp i have that the game will run on is currently loaded with viruses

i use clamav, it too is a free antivirus and spydetector (although they dont advertise as antispy, i have found it works far better [primarily because it can find trojans] than spybot and ad-aware together). In fact i just recently did a system rebuild (just to clean it up, its been 2 years+) and go rid of norton and am using clamav exclusivly. Plus it is an open source program that from what i have read many av and spy/ad-aware industry people contribute too.

your hard drive really shouldnt matter (as long as it is 7200rpm or better) and as long as you have a couple free gigs. As far as your specs, yes you should be able to run fine. I had specs basically identicle for the first few weeks of running the game. The only problem i had was when artillery was pounding the ground near me it would lag a bit, but other than that it depends a great deal on your connection. but the first thing you want to up is your ram (another 512 stick should do the trick).

In fact, the first pic below is a screen shot that i took when i had very similar specs, running graphics all on low. (2.4ghz, 5200nvidia, 512ram)




Now the following pic is a pic after i bumped my video card from a 5200 like yours, to a monstrous Nvidia BFG 6800 Overclocked 256ddr3...yeah baby!
(the settings were mostly on medium)

Hopefully I can get internet up in my room tonight.. I just have to go out and buy a cable. I was told the apartment HAD internet access if you have a cable.. but *shrug* who knows.

I'm having my BF2 withdrawls... Man I havn't played in like two days lol.

But on the plus side at least I'm not spending too much time on AO and instant messaging.
