I stand a bit corrected. However I believe the news agencies should be more carefull about how they state the situation. On CNN the anchor said "radical islamists" which even more so than simply saying "islamists" equates the rioters to Al-Qaeda-esque terrorists. I can't imagine any rioter sitting down and making positive decisions after being labeled radical.

Someone mentioned the liberal immigration policy as part of this debacle. There is also no affirmative action or placing assistance for these immigrants. Most of the "cities" that these riots are taking place in were built in the sixties to specifically house these immigrants. Now they are more equal to slums since the population has found it very difficult to find work. Anyway it's a mess of problems that France would rather have disappear. At least real concerns are being identified.

Most rioters won't ever sit down to make positive decisions. A riot is a riot is a riot, whether it's a race riot in LA or a class riot in France. Rioters don't have to be civilized or rational, because hey, they're RIOTING. They're causing chaos and pandemonium. None of those rioters are ever going to sit down with the French government and solve the problem. If the problem is adressed, it'll be an Islamic politician or an upstanding member of the community that takes the job.

There will always be slums. The idiocy of the French government lies in letting the situation escalate to this point-- it's happening in Paris' backyard, they can't have NOT seen it coming. It's like staring at a lighted fuse and wondering why everything just blew up in your face.

its a riot of teenagers throwing cocktails from scooters. no political agenda, just some kids that didnt get enough "upside the head" when they were younger

ok, so all of this started because 2 kids hopped a fence into an electrical substation. While in there they were electrocuted.

Then what......did the cops beat them with sticks afterwords? I just do not understand why a riot would start after 2 kids did this, the cops didnt throw them over there...or did they.....

It may have been racist, but was it a moronic statement? The two are not necessarily mutally inclusive - nor am I stating that they are not. That just seems like a knee jerk reaction - anyone who says anything racist is an idiot? I would not think so. Maybe he has a reason for stating what he did, though he definetly could have done so better if he did.
