Essentially, the kids ran when they saw some police, even though it appears the police really weren't after them. I'd say they had guilty consciences. Wrong - Super-patriotism (what you describe) is a problem, and far less common than patriotism. Many people can love the country, acknowledge the problems, and MOVE on to the present. Whats happening is one of two things
A) France finally realized they are French and have outrageous accents, so in an attempt to mass genocide the french, they are starting riots
or
B) The French have finally realized that they only win wars when they fight against themselves, and feel the need for victory again...

Did anyone happen to catch last SNL? They had a skit of the rioting in France; Chirac was addressing the country in a television broadcast and said the rioters would now face the full force of French military power! He and another guy then started yelling "we surrender!"! Priceless, LOL.
