I personally dont think mad skillz will be highlighted when it is mechanical only. It will probably just be a step back into the woods in a sense. Sure airball and concept fields will still be around, as will gun cheaters. If anyone remembers pre-99 balling people were out there cheating with their guns, thumbing the cocking rod, carrying allen wrenches, cranking regs, turning bolts, et cetera. So to answer your question no it will not increase skill, people will play the same only with different guns. People will still cheat, they may have to go back to the old school to do it but it will still happen. Mech only tourneys would be great I would participate, but cheaters are always gonna be around nothing to change that. so if the cheater aspect is what you are trying to nip get over it. If you ust want a different taste of the sport then that would definately be the way to go.

P.S. Pump doesn't equal more skill. I play pump electro and mech. I am about mediocre at all of them. But by your words then I should automatically have mad skillz cause I have a pump gun in my hand. The only thing I do better with a pump is find cover so I can reload.

Yes, people cheat. They cheat electro, they cheat mechanical. WHY they cheat is the issue, not how. They cheat because they don't have the skills to survive in the game. Returning to mechanical markers has nothing to do with cheating and everything to do with the skills people use when they are limited by a lower ROF, triggers that don't fire when you breath, and other limitations of mechanical/stock play. If you limit the markers, you increase the skills necessary to play the game. You no longer can rely upon the "accuracy by volume" method that is so popular today. People who short-stroke triggers will have to learn to use the equipment and not slack off onto a microswitch.

It's our job to catch the cheaters and play our best. In a better world, we'll teach the cheaters how to play so that they don't need to compromise the integrity of the sport.

plus mech only tournaments will allow those people how can't handle being over shot a chance to play in tournaments. That is not to say that no one was over shot with mechs or pumps (heck back in the early days 2 balls hitting you got you angry because it was over shooting). But there will be less overshooting in mech games than electro.

Back before my break from the game when it was mech only i have very few memories of leaving the field in pain, now it is not uncommon to catch 6+ hits in a rec game. I think the insidence of this occuring will lower and allow more people to play without having to be 'hardcore'.

its not the ROF cheating we should be worried about. I don't care if they're shooting 20 bps at me, I care if I shoot them in the face and they come up clean, especially when the refs are involved.

This ROF and cheater board stuff lately is stupid, I don't care if tehy're shooting fast, I care if they're WIPING. Why don't you stop that first. ROF isn't inherently dangerous, so its not really cheating. Face it, some teams will suck no matter how fast they shoot. But when you play teams who wipe as part of their game plan, thats lame. Especially when they're teams made out to be honest by the "paintball media". THAT'S what has to be stopped.

Just play to play and play fair...

Wiping, playing on, all that stuff is actually cheating and should be more controlled. Gun cheats should also be controlled but when is enough? Seriously if you go insering blue tooth technology into a gun you are gonna jack up the price and noone is gonna play with those guns except pros cause they either cant afford them or dont want everyone breathing down their necks. There has to be a line drawn that depicts what is legal and what isnt. Frankly a ROF cap or a debounce, or a dwell setting isnt gonna cut it. Cause someone who is dishonest will always try to undermine everything for their own personal gain. But I digress.

I still think if you are gonna have mech tourneys don't claim its because there is more skill involved, or because there will be less cheating. Say what you really mean you like mechanical guns and you can't keep up with the electro machineguns. Everyone knows its the truth so may as well admit it. There is no more skill to shooting someone with your mag then there is shooting someone with your angel. So quit acting like players with mech guns are gods. Look how many rentals are mech, that doesnt make the skill level increase, and although paint sales would increase the skill level wouldnt if the rented electros.

"Using a mech gun will force players to rely on skills."
You started playing in 2000 or after didn't you? Cause I remember when it was cockers and mags. The odd shocker would show up but the were about the same ROF. but electros didnt leach skills from people they just made the game a little more interesting. A good player can play with whatever gun they want and still excel. If you dont beleive me get a few teams together and scrimmage with rentals and then with the guns they are used to. There may be a slight deviation, but most often the players will average the same eliminations, and about the same amount of paint a game.

One of the fields close by has tryed a mech only tourny. He would not allow RT's or cockers.I am really not sure why he disallowed cockers , I guess just to make all the kids feel better about being on even ground. The turnout was so poor that he has not tried another.

Personally I am for the mech only. But obviously the RT would hold an unfair advantage and be looked at as a cheat.

What I think would be a better alternative would be to put a cap on marker ROF.
I see markers all day long blasting 15BPS , knowing that somehow the debounce or whatever is in the electronics is assisting in this.Put these markers on a cap like a true 10BPS and go with it.
That way the good that has come from electros like the eyes and short trigger pull can be utilized , but these insane ROF's that are not humanly possible will be done away with.

it's a cool idea but not practical.. Alot of tourny players own electro's now adays, and I doubt they will want to down grade..

Honestlly it's not a big deal.. It's the electro-shooters fault if there waisting a bunch of paint shooting at you.

i dont think that wasting paint is the issue here.
it is the ability for someone with an electro to install a cheater board and have a runaway marker that shoots much faster than they are actually pulling the trigger.

People should be checking for bounce in boards more often then.. If a player is caught setting the bounce higher during a game they should just be banned from the league for the year or something of the sort.

                        Mech only would rock.

Its funny I was thinking of this very thing, mostly for the stand point that the paintball manufacturers must be loving the push to faster and faster shooting markers because they are making a killing. And I thought a full mech tourney would be awesome.

I recently took the eblade off my marker and went back to mechanical (one of the reason I have also started looking into mags) and shoot fast, not 20bps fast but fast. I fire more often and take as many outnow as did before. I especially like to take out the guys with the Imps, the ones who believe htey have near magical paintball powers because of what they shoot nothow they shoot.

Anyways, all mech is the way to go.

i know it says for us ao'ers not to post there but...

It is simply too easy to cheat with e-markers. Any monkey with a basic course in electronics can reprogram a board so after a speciffic pattern (ie, 1 shot 2 second pause, 4 shots 1 second, pause 6 shots) the board will enter into a cheater bounce, full auto, turbo, or burst pattern. The technology used in electros (simple circuit board) is not complicated at all, and many people are equipt to tamper with, modify, or manufacture their own board. Sure you can bounce with a mech, but its a hellava lot easier to detect a bouncing mech trigger than a tampered or home made electronic board. I am not suggesting that all electros be banned from play, as that is too far fetched, and would punish everyone. However, I would support a mech-only league, as it would get rid of a lot of problems, and more skill would be needed, not just some 11 year old kid with an expensive marker spraying all over the place and getting a lucky shot, possibly hurting somebody in the process.

Great Idea and totally agree with QUINCYMASSGUY!

Keeping the E-cheater board machine guns off the field would incourage more people to participate because of more balanced competition and increased skill importance rather than who can afford the most expensive, customized E-cheater gun.
