well im quite certain the black community doesnt want their plight compaired or even mentioned in the same breath as the gays. and at this point in time the are not the same. my question has always been should we wait for the plight of the gays to reach that level before we act? the underlying problem with that is there are a great number of people that believe that being gay is a choice. so as long as its a choice the gay person can accept their lot in life. as long as there is a debate on gay choice, there will be a debate on gay rights as well.
while states do honor drivers and marriage licenses from other states, you can only live for so long in a state without getting a new drivers license. and divorce in nevada is not honored in any state other than nevada, so there is some precedent for seperate state rules. it may mean modifying state laws so if you move to another state you have to reapply for a marriage license in that state, but it prolly could be done. after all, hetro marriage is not proscribed on a federal level, i dont think homo marriage would have to be either.
but im not a lawyer either.
