You claim society dictates what is appropriate, and it seems society now considers it fine to wear whatever you want to church. You may think, personally, that society has made the wrong choice, but if God doesn't care, and society doesn't care, then you're the odd man out. I wear flip-flops, jeans, and a t-shirt to church often times. My pastor wears bright red Converse high-tops, jeans, and a button down Sundays! On holidays or whatnot, I'll dress up, as does my pastor. Why? Becuase on those days, it is considered more appropriate to wear nice clothes.

So should people listen to the dictates of society to determine what is tactful? I think so. But if society (your church and pastor included) is fine with jeans, then you're the only one feeling disrespected.

On a bit of a side-note: Sleazy clothes and all that are not Biblical, so those things are not up to society to decide and are wrong.
-For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. Philipians 1:21

-Don't try to use your fancy smancy "logic" on me! It won't work!

-It is better to stay silent, and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

It's a matter of respect. Would you wear all that to a funeral?

I think the clothing issue is indicative of society as a whole.

No, but I don't care if somebody else does.
