If simply defending yourself is your goal, go learn Krav Maga. It'd be kinda useless in MMA, but in real life, hard to beat it.
best form of martial arts?

To me, I beleive in useful martial arts... as such pure show or even "competition" forms don't necesarrily define the best to me. And yes I competed when I did Kenpo. To me the best martial art is the one that is going to allow me, and those with me, to escape whatever situation I am in alive, and as unhurt as possible - Krav Maga may well be this. Again, I point out the that martial arts that have a theory "if it works its a good move" are, at least to me, great for this purpose, and very adaptable."Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. Krav Maga isn't a defensive style. Krav Maga is pretty much 100 percent offence.Originally posted by ThordicIf simply defending yourself is your goal, go learn Krav Maga. It'd be kinda useless in MMA, but in real life, hard to beat it.
Edit: But I see where you're going with that.

Self-defense doesn't necessarily mean "defense". In my opinion, self-defense is the act of keeping yourself from being injured when attacked.
Krav Maga is a way to defend yourself through offense. They attack you, you break their leg, and run away while they hobble around screaming. That sort of thing. Its about disabling an attacker so you can get away from the situation.

The 21 feet thing....
Couldnt you just run away from the knife guy while you unholster your firearm?
And what if your the fastest gun in the west?Comment

No, that doesn't work.Originally posted by JakedubbleyaThe 21 feet thing....

The general theory is to break his arm / disarm him / break a knee.. then get 21 feet and see if he would be interested in negotiation - the .45 barrel pointed at him tends to increase the willingness to negotiate"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. I hate to keep this thread alive with stupid comments (oh, hello there, Mr.
) but I'm going to answer your question.
The average able-bodied man can cover 21 feet in less time it takes to draw, make ready, and fire a sidearm. Can you extrapolate the rest from there, or do we have to keep going?

On Guam there is a very good variety of trainers that I can easily train with, oneespaecially is my friend who runs a gym and at one time was number four in the world of BJJ after a NY Abidabi event. He lost to Rickson Gracie by points in overtime.
There are also some great Judo studios that are here but I do not really want to get into an art if I just want to learn one aspect of it, clinch take downs.
Muay thai is very small on Guam and is another reason why I want to learn it. But I want to stick mainly to Jui Jitsu and Muay thaiI am a declared Carb lover.

i think 10 is more reasonable, which is 16 feet per second, with about a second and a half
even we clumbsy people can shoot .6 without prior attempts
i think theres enough time to draw, and unsafety
