And the weapon policy is pretty clear, we're not allowed to discharge, own, posess, consider posessing, or have an innocent daydream about touching any possible sort of "weapon." So, yeah, I broke the rule, and I'm not expecting to get off on some technicality.

Yeah, if it was me I would write a paper that was the exact opposite of the liberal BS that they expect you to hear.
Seriously, my paper would be something like "I cannot research the particular plastic toy since my property was confiscated illegally but similar ones are designed from the start to be perfectly safe to fire directly at another person" making sure to point out the difference between a "firearm" and something that simply looks like one. You get the point. I would also rip apart the film as well. Contact the NRA, they might be helpful in this regard. Definitely check out this page too: www.mooreexposed.com Ya gotta love a book named "Michael Moore is a big fat stupid white man". Hell, contact the ACLU too.
I would title the paper with this quote by John Aquilino which appeared in the Washington Post: "Gun owners are the new N****** ... of society" I might run with that, and talk about how society always has to have some group of people at the bottom that it's OKay to abuse, and this time it's your turn.
You might want to put in some stuff about how playing tempered mock combat sports is critical in building the character of future citizens. I wrote a paper years ago about it in relation to paintball. I hope you can use something from it:
There is a longstanding difference of opinion about the effects of violence on youngsters. Some say that violence is harmful; others say that insulating youth from violence is harmful. The essence of civilization is taming of violent animal tendencies in human beings so that they can co-exist. The highest expression of this is the reliance with which citizens can interact with one another in complete confidence that violence will not erupt. Fatal violence is very rare in contrast to the billions of successful non-violent interactions everyday on this planet. We take civilization for granted as a natural expression of our humanity, but it is not natural at all. Respect for others rights to exist must be learned.
For thousands of years men have pondered how this tempering of violent natural instincts comes about. A constant thread throughout the evolution of civilization have been sport and contest amongst friendly individuals. The thrill of victory without the disrespect of death to your enemy. We call these activities "sports." From chess to football, from tennis to rugby to boxing and fencing the dark relish for corporal victory is processed into a non-lethal game with varying degrees of cerebral participation, physical contact and even combat.
Most sports, especially baseball, football, etc. commonly played by youngsters and ponsored in the schools to engender the values of fair play, sportsmanship, ability to handle victory and defeat are clearly in the mainstream of tempered combat activity.
And these all have value proven over hundreds of years of building the character of future citizens. There is a case to be made that children deprived of these forms of mock combat grow up to be poorly civilized, misanthropic incompetents at human interactions. They can't distinguish between a real physical life threat and a simple loss of being cheated in a business deal. The wind up in towers shooting everyone in sight, or beating up their wives or dogs or just being miserable and mystified. They never got to learn civilization.
The negative reaction to paintball as a sport shows the lack of understanding of the nature of civilization. Paintball is merely a sophisticated mock combat sport, and I have no problem playing such a game. When I play paintball I can indulge in the fantasy of stalking and hunting an enemy, while he hunts and stalks me (a sub-civilized interaction) and know full well it is not real. This activity is not misanthropic or psychotic ... it is in fact highly civilized, since no lethality or injury is intended or consummated. Safety is paramount and injuries are rare (certainly rarer than in football). Participants in paintball battles get together after a game in enthusiastic spirit of camaraderie and good will. comparing tactics, victories, defeats, preparations and violations. It's sport, it's fun. The lesson to teach youth is that among other things civilization involves a distinction between fantasy and reality. That there are complexities to winning and loosing ... that you (and your fellow citizens) are normal when you're not nice to each other all the time ... in short, that the wonderful phenomenon of civilization is the most important thing to understand.Comment

I'm suggesting you give those liberal SOBs a new poop chute.Originally posted by BobTheCow- You are responsible for violating the University weapons policy.
The above sanctions cannot be appealed unless based on a due process violation or upon receipt of information not available at the time of the Initial Conference...
First of all, heres some information they didnt know at the time of the initial conference:
That was not a weapon. To prove this, show that it has never been used as a weapon, and that it is almost nearly impossible to kill, and just as hard to maim someone with it (eyes.. maybe a chipped tooth, but that looks like a springer to me.
On those terms, I know for almost a fact that your state laws dont consider spring airsoft guns as firearms, or weapons. Why do I know? Well Massachusetts doesn't consider them such, and massachusetts is as liberal as they get. like my daddy Jaan said, these things are DESIGNED to be shot at other people without harming them.
Jaan pretty much said everything I wanted to. Go jaan.

Thats straight from your handbook, Ryan.
If that gun is spring-powered, it is neither an air/gas pistol, nor a BB gun. Its a toy pellet gun.
.12gram pellet (the pellet your gun is designed for) at 260 fps (the velocity your gun is designed for) is 0.42J of energy. Based on the Firearms Act 1968, the 3 J limit is indicated by Forensic Science Agency for Northern Ireland as the lower limit to inflict a lethal(paragraph 123)/penetrating(paragraph 26) wound. On another document also regarding firearms, "The Eleventh Annual Report of the Firearms Consultative Committee", the penetration levels lies between 2 and 3 J based on a research for US Army and DiMaio's work in "Minimal Velocities Necessary for Perforation of Skin by Air Pellets and Bullets, Journal of Forensic Sciences".
I pulled that info off Wikipedia, so you may want to double check the math, but it gives you a basis for your paper, or maybe even basis for appeal. Is there a pre-law club or something? Complain to the student government. Write an article for the school paper.
We got caught throwing M80s stuffed in pumpkins out the 6th floor window onto the tennis courts and only got a slap on the wrist in college. Not to mention our homemade butane flamethrowers (we didn't get caught with those). And its not like that was very long ago. Sheesh.

Research the make and model of the weapon that you fired on campus. Write a description of its power, including velocity of bb, firing range, etc.
- .338 Lapua Arctic Warfare Magnum
- Muzzle velocity of 914 m/s (Depends on how far the muzzle is from your face)
- Maximum effective range of 1500 m
- Muzzle Energy of 7000 joules
The guiding mantra of the Office of Judicial Affairs is responsible freedom. Develop an interpretation of responsible freedom and apply this meaning to your actions in the incident.
- My interpretation of responsible freedom is freely using your responsibilities to shoot off guns as much as you can, other wise liberal pansies like you would ban these beautiful pieces of art.
Watch the movie, Bowling For Columbine, by filmmaker Michael Moore. Identify the main theme of the movie. Comment on your thoughts on the film's theme. How do you feel about the film's portrayal of the Columbine incident and its critique of current societal laws regarding gun control? What duties do you feel accompany gun ownership and/or use of a firearm.
- Guns dont kill people dangerous minorities do. oh, them and college kids who've had their guns taken away, they kill too.
im sure AO can pull together and kick some liberal dean's butt

I agree with almost every comment already made here, in fact my RA several years ago, kept his loaded 1911 in the closet, I don't think the fact that he was a marine should make any freakin difference.
But look at it this way, your in school, you signed agreements when you accepted housing from them. In fact you probably signed a contract. Legally it is your responsibility.
Is it worth getting kicked out of school to piss off some "liberals"? I think not, write the paper honestly, without the intention of pissing anyone off, and pay the price for being stupid.
They made me put my paintball gun in the weapons locker at the campus police station while I was at school. I couldn't have it in my room overnight, and I couldn't get it out on the weekends, tell me how that works? Oh and you needed to give them 1 weeks warning before you needed it.Comment

The way things are these days he's just lucky that the school didn't call the police to search his room and have him arrested. (not joking)"Relax. Don't worry. Have a Home Brew."

Some more info i hope can help:
The following excerpts are from the United Kingdom Parliament's "Principles of firearms control", Home Affairs Select Committee Second Report, 6th April 2000, expound on the level of danger involved with low-energy projectiles:
"26. The Home Office and the Forensic Science Service considers that the lowest level of muzzle energy capable of inflicting a penetrating wound is one foot pound force (1.35 J): below these power levels, weapons are "incapable of penetrating even vulnerable parts of the body, such as the eye".[54] However, more recent analysis by the Forensic Science Agency for Northern Ireland has indicated that a more reasonable assessment of the minimum muzzle energy required to inflict a penetrating wound lies between 2.2 and 3.0 ft·lbf (3 to 4 J).[

Under Federal Law, airsoft guns are not classified as firearms but orange tips must be present on the barrel ends and the gun's trademarks and factory markings must be removed.
