I absolutely LOVE shartley's design... but since it can't be done there's no use drooling over it...

In a perfect world we'd have a 5-axis in every shop, and everyone would run Tebis to make things that look like Fabric out of metals! but then... Simon's cool designs wouldn't be quite as unique... doh!

I gotta believe Shartley's design can be tweaked so that it could be machined in a short amount of time... its just too sweet to let slip...

By making a slug, AGD can be sure the critical measurements are correct - then when Joe's Paintball shop mills and anos the slug, it will fit and work properly. Otherwise, a bad fitting body would cause problems and leave people saying "man that 'mag sucks" which is bad for AGD, even if they didn't make the body.

Also, look at the number (2) of companies making aluminum bodies now for the 'mag. Giving them a working body to start with so they can do just the cosmetic milling will be an impetus to encourage more companies to build and sell custom 'mags.

Now, as for the design of the slug, if it extended back over the valve a bit more, that would give some more flexibility to what kind of designs can be made from it.

Which is pretty much what I thought. But I do hope that AGD outsources to more shops than they have with the extreme bodies.

But for those shops that do have 5-axis machines or AO'ers with the talent to use a CAD program to create the correct files, it would be nice if AGD would sell a base CAD file with the critical measurements included. If produced from the CAD files with the correct machine no problem with tolerances. Even just sell the CAD info to qualified shops/individuals.

In an e-mail to AGD info I asked about purchasing a slug rail. Essentially no side shaping or drilling. Just the indent, sear groove and other critical work. In raw aluminum. I alos requested if it was possible to get an intelliframe in an unfinished state (so you don't have to strip it before anodizing or powder coating. Answer: No such product, ask on AO.

So can anyone get me a slug-rail? Looks like I have to strip a new intelliframe.

I have found AGD's response to the many requests for at least some dimensions terrible. Over the years I have emailed them many times asking for some/all dimensions so I could work on accurate designs. I have never once gotten an AGD response. We can all measure our stuff to get pretty good dimensions, but then again folks are always complaining about stuff being slightly out of wack and causing all kinds of problems. Why not provide a few dimensions that are key, say the distance between the field strip screw hole, the on/off hole, the front hole in the grip, the vert asa hole and the axis of the feed hole? Having those real dimensions would help me come up with workable concepts for things like this thread.

Personally I think I may just wait for the extreme bodies to come out for individual sale.To get any milling done to these slug bodies that is anywhere near complicated is going to cost a fortune and then it stil has to annoed. So in reality it would be easier to just by an extreme body already cut and annoed rather than going through the hassel of getting it done at an outside source. I would also be up for getting a simplified extreme body to be carved up if Tom is willing to produce some.

                Hexis,

We don't like people making bodies with the mechanical parts done by others. We end up being responsible for everyone elses screw ups. We only give out stuff on a need to know basis. If you have something specific email me.

its not like it would be incredibly hard to find the dimensions yourself with a micrometer and a few other simple tools.

                        AGD,

I can understand your concern. What's the agreement between PTP and AGD then? It would seem that the micro-mag has attained a point at which manufacturing tolerances are acceptable, and as the public now buys them as complete guns instead of just upgrade bodies it is with the full participation and blessing of AGD.

But if we do have ideas of our own how do we propose them to you? Currently I would like to produce a custom rail (On a side note, from what I understand, the Benchmark rails are not supported or endorsed by AGD).

To create my simplest design, I would need to start from an RT rail in which the mainbody would fit half way and which is 1/8 in. wider than the body to each side (taller and wider than the std rail). So really a rectangular block, 1/4 in. larger than the mainbody wide, same length as the current rail, with the mainbody channel (increased to a full 180 degrees) cut in the top, and the required slots and screw holes in the bottom/side (but only the sear pin screw drilled in the side, not the RT foregrip screw holes or the sight rail holes).

For my more complex design(s), I require something a little different but don't want to give my ideas up in an open forum.

If outside shops are to customise mags at resonable prices, other parts in raw aluminum should be available (I'd like a raw intelliframe if I can create my own rail so I can finish it in the same manner as the rail).

I just saw that AGD finally got these up in the shop and boy do they look good.

Something like this in aluminum would be sweet, except with cocker threads and a lowrise gated feed. I don't got photoshop but if someone could photoshop it onto the rt rail except have the back slant at an angle opposite the front angle(like a paralelogram) so it covers the part of the valve. I have no idea if this is possible but it's worth a shot.

i agree the twist lock system is obsolete and i cant stand it, but i dont like cocker threadings much more either. they take to long to get off, I would put either angel or spyder threadings on it.

Chris, I believe the decision has already been made about the threading. I don't see how much longer it could take to get a cocker barrel off versus an angel? Not to mention with lvl 10 there's really not much of a reason to be taking the barrel off too much.

Hey, Phil are those slugs cut up at all or are they just the blank ones that are up here already? If tom has any that are milled there get some pics up if you got any spare time. I wanted to go but seeing that I'm on the other side of the country it made it a bit difficult.
