I like the basic concept, although it obviously needs a little refinement. I'm definitely interested, nevertheless. Whatever potentially moves us closer to integrating paint + power source into a single package...

I do have one minor counterpoint to make... Batteries themselves can be dangerous, depending on the type of battery. RC enthusiasts will know what I'm talking about. Up until now, we've pretty much dealt with relatively small batteries (aside from the very sad emag battery). As of last year we were still sort of waking up to the dangers and repercussions of CO2/HPA.

In fact, now that I think about it some more, I would say we're better off as a whole if the tournament players stick with HPA.

I think a lot of people around here need to understand that Tourney ball is not the only ball around. And the MAJORITY of people that play paintball don't play Tourney.

I still like the gun.. I love the idea. Hopefully all the tourney lemmings don't kill it before it has a chance.

            EVolt Facts

Contrary to the speculation in the previous posts this does NOT use a spring. Without going into great detail, let is suffice to say that this is NOT airsoft technology. Airsoft guns only have to launch an extremely small and lightweight projectile. The EVolt will fire a standard paintball at speeds up to 300 feet per second. Velocity is consistent and easily adjustable. The size, shape and weight are in many ways dictated by the 18 volt rechargeable battery that is located in the stock of the marker. I don't expect to see this marker in many (if any) tournament games just as I did not expect to see the Talon in tournaments and yet the Talon is by far the number one selling marker of all time and is many ways responsible for the phenomenal growth of our sport between 1996 and 2000.

what's the big deal of adapting well-known piston and spring airsoft technology to pb?

The only reason it wasn't done before is because other folks looked at the limitations and said 'nah, not yet'.

Next we'll be seeing a 'red ryder' pump carbine with an overpressure relief valve in the air chamber so that you can't pump it up more then ten times for a shot...

See my previous post and keep in mind ...

its a good idea but even when the technology has had time to mature an electro powered gun can never be fast enough to compete with the gas powered guns we have today.

and who is that little cuty in the picture?

                  Hrm.

People seem to think that this is just a bigger version of an airsoft mechanism.

So what's the max ROF of an airsoft gun? And is the max ROF on airsoft guns due to reasons related to the mechanism itself, or perhaps other reasons?

well maybe never was a little excessive but ill bet that if it was made to be competative in tournaments it would be way too expensive just because electronics cost more than mechanical.

Forget about batteries. In 5-10 years micro engines will be powering alot of our every day electronics. This is just another device that these little power plants can be used in.

There are a lot of haters.

It's quite disheartening when so many players look down on anything that is not related to tournament paintball.
