      yakitori,
If you did not mean it in a derogatory manor, then why even mention he is Canadian? If you are upset at someone ruining a business, should it matter if it's an American, German, Korean, Canadian or a person from any other country? Is it so much worse because he is Canadian, or would you not be so upset if say I sent those emails instead of Slarty?

Oh, and not directed at anyone, just a general comment.

I hadn't realized that the link in Slarty's email was different than the link others had been posted. After looking through the link, I really don't like this company, but maybe it's just that I am getting old and don't see the "e-cool" thing about vulgarity in advertising. I personally would not by a product from a company that gives me the middle finger as I go looking for information.

        No Eric, you're not alone.

Yakitori-you could have garnered a much different response to your side of the argument if you could have been more civil about it. Say you don't care, go ahead, but your rants are very poorly formulated and have got you caught up trying to explain yourself to the point that it seems like you don't even know what you're thinking.

I am NOT going to defend you, because I don't agree with your position in the least, but I do try to read between the lines of your ravings and see that there is some merit to be attributed to it. It's just too bad that you have to be so primitive with your choice of wording. If you would have been able to stay in control of your emotions, then no one would have had a reason to call you an idiot.

I've been following this thread from the beginning since I have my own interests in "stolen" ideas. As a designer, I thank Slartybartfast for doing what he did. I can say from experience that it is rather sickening to go somewhere else and see a reproduction of your idea.

But on another note, a question that you should ask yourselves is: who here is actually guilt free? If you've ever, taped a record, burned a cd or downloaded a pirated movie, you're walking the fine line of hypocriticism by sending Hybrid to the guillotine.

I'm not trying to sound like Mr. Do-good, because I am not. Stealing intellectual property is certainly wrong, but I'm just wondering if there is a point at which we justify it by saying, "it's not going to hurt anybody if I just copy this for myself," but then turn around and find it wrong when someone copies on a grander scale, to the point of making a profit from another person's idea. The moral high ground is hard to stand on here.

At issue here is the blatant use of a design that has yet to be proven as stolen. If this is the case, then Hybrid is certainly guilty, and should be punished accordingly. Otherwise the law is irrelevant. This case has a high profile now, and we are all going to follow it until it's resolved.
If it didn't get all this attention, would it still be an issue that has us casting stones across the gray area that divides\unites us?

I was going to say that long ago but just kept shut. I have done some things similiar to what you mentioned and I know it is not right. I guess the difference is that Hybrid is a nice sized company that should know better than to steal something let alone use it to make money while advertising it so blatantly. The money aspect changes alot about this issue but right is right and wrong is wrong, no middle ground. That still doesnt make my actions any better, so I am guilty as charged.

For what it's worth shartley, for the first time in my life, I would go as far to say that I agree with everything you said. If you read my post carefully, I wasn't taking a stand, but merely making an observation.
We are not perfect, as you said, and there is a matter of principle to be upheld when reporting an illegal act of this magnitude. I support Slart's actions wholeheartedly, and I can do so with a clear conscience in regards to such an undermining practice.
The relevance of petty piracy aside, I totally agree with you that harsh offenses should be reported, no matter how flawed the whistle blower is.
However this IS a good opportunity to shed some light on our own practices. Even if we don't stoop to the lower levels of thievery, artists everywhere of all sorts are being short changed in a variety of ways. And that too is wrong.

The issue of the "stolen" or "not stolen" image appears to be clear to me as well. I just didn't go so far as to label it as such so I could avoid being accused of libel.

who cares, hybrid sucks. If they stole the image, they deserve to be shut down. Maybe then IOI will start making paintball stuff where hybrid left off. .

EDIT:: NAAAAH, they will prolly just keep the money to themselves.

What about Bunker King? They've got products listed with bruce lee, tony montana, pulp fiction, cadillac, etc. It looks like hybrid might make the things for them and stamp a BK label on it, but figured I'd ask anyways.
