Not all the recent terrorist attacks have been from Al Qaeda.

To my knowledge the last place the Feds were looking for the Anthrax mailer was at Batelle Labs, not the local Mosque. Maybe I misunderstood. Maybe Batelle Labs has a Mosque now.

So chances are this man isn't Muslim.

That is what I have been saying.

And the authorities arn't looking for a Muslim in the Anthrax case. The authorities are also looking for members of Al-Quida, and they are Muslim. The best chance for finding a Muslim terrorist is to detain suspicious Muslims. Is it racial? Of course it is. Al-Quida is not known for its diversity.

Well if you are going to detain someone based on suspiscion, they should atleast have the right to know what they are being accused of, as well as the right to a attorney, and a phone call.

            *edit*

and the FBI's does not suspect the Anthrax letters were from a Middle Eastern terrorist.

"FBI officials said they doubt the letters were sent by Middle Eastern terrorists because they do not resemble other such letters sent in the past. One official said that such letters typically include some Arabic text, but these do not."

I just said that, and a Al-Quida member has no more rights than a German or Japanese spy during WWII.

But these people who were detained were not members of Al Qaeda. Thus they deserve the same rights as any other American citizen.

Kai and Impostal did you actually read the link?

All of those arrested in your link were arrested CIVILLY for IMMIGRATION VIOLATIONS!!!

They were not arrested as enemy combatants and then handed over to the military.

To be honest with you, I don't have a problem with them rounding up ILLEGAL immigrants, people who overstay their VISAS ILLEGALLY and holding them until they are deported no matter how long it takes.

These people have NO RIGHT TO BE HERE. THAT IS WHY THEY ARE CALLED ILLEGAL ALIENS!!!

Was the case sighted in your article extreme? Of course it was. However if Hady Omar would have immigrated legally instead of overstaying his TOurist Visa, there would have been no grounds to arrest him would there. I hope he does get deported so that he has to come back in the right way! Why should he be exempt from the rules. The second man cited in the article admits he entered th US illegally and he knew it was wrong, but he wanted job training in NYC so he decided the rules don't apply to him. His butt was deported as it should have been. The third man was also deported as he was here again ILLEGALLY!!! Also most of the 1200 others rounded up in those sweeps have been deported because they were here ILLEGALLY!!! Entering the United States illegally is a crime in and of itself.

So Kai....Try again. AN illegal immigrant should have no rights when compared to a US Citizen in our country! They have no right to be here in the first place!

i'm sure there's plenty of nonmuslims that want these people dead.

perhaps a better question is...how many muslims aren't members of al-qaeda?

That is silly. There are millions and millions of ;aw abiding muslims world wide. Al-Queda is a small and loose umbrella group for terrorists. Their numbers can not begin to compare to the numbers of muslims who hate Al Queda as much as we do. Take the Saudi's for instance. Al Queda is now #1 on their hit parade after their attacks on fellow Muslims.

B.) To say that just because you are not a citizen of the U.S. means you have no rights here, is horrible. All else aside, they still should have been notified of WHY they were being detained.

C.) It's quite obvious that capturing those people illegally residing in the U.S. was far from being the main objective in the arrests.

Any other citizen? They arn't citizens. The bill of rights doesn't apply to them. Nor should it. Ever.

I was not attacking. I was pointing out that your link was invalid. It was not on point.

They were detained by the civil authorities, not the military. They were arrested on immigration violations which were legit. They do not have nor are entitled to the rights of US citizens. They were illegal aliens, by definition criminals. They were notified that they were being detained on immigration charges.

C.) It's quite obvious that capturing those people illegally residing in the U.S. was far from being the main objective in the arrests.

I'll agree with you here. However, the arrests and detention was ultimately legal. Had these people been arrested without any legal basis I could agree with you totally, but they were here illegally, so they reaped what they sewed.
