sue the school. they are providing every student with dangerous firearms by having straws and napkins in the cafeteria.

seriously now. its a spring powered gun that fires a plasic pellet. and airsoft guns have the little yellow tip on them for a reason. god.

please tell me what school this is so i can take it off my list of potential colleges.

No, they're not. If you wanted to stretch it, they're providing you with the capability to manufacture a "firearm".

This doesn't mean that they're not dangerous. Think about the damage a 6mm pellet would do going 330 fps. Would you want one of those things hitting you in the eye?

are you arguing for the school or just playing devils advocate?

meh. i think im going to go to bed rather than write a lengthy explanation/argument. you know what i meant. according to the rules a straw and wad of paper is a firearm. and it wouldnt fire 330 fps, its a plastic spring powered airsoft pistol. ive made a mini tabletop catapult for a school project that shot airsoft pellets as well as any spring powered airsoft pistol. enough said.

we already made the point that it takes at least 1-5 joules to penetrate the eyeball (depending on what study), and that the springer cant put out that much energy.

I'm saying that if I had to live with a bunch of stupid college guys, I sure as hell wouldn't want them running around the dorms shooting those damn things. It's not safe, and it's not necessary.

And no, the rules do not apply to a straw and a wad of paper. Just because you take it to extremes and the rule breaks down, doesn't mean it's invalid in the first place.

Thirdly, HIS may not have shot 330 fps, but did you ever stop to think that this not only covers his piddly-crap spring-loaded one, but also the $400, electric, full-auto airsoft guns that do 600 rounds per minute. Speaking with a friend of mine just now, he told me that he hopped up his MP5 to 330fps, as he plays competitively. Stock, the gun shoots 280 feet per second. So, yes, they will do in excess of 330 fps.

This is a good rule, and BTC was wrong in violating it.

Now, what is seriously not fair is the resulting consequences and method of punishment. That is should be what is under scrutiny, not whether or not the rule is good or not, or whether BTC was wrong for what he did.

Yeah, you all are arguing the wrong thing. TP pretty much hit the nail on the head. I broke the rule, it was stupid, I'll admit that. The issue is the whacked out punishment.

That pretty much sucks. But honestly, that paper, is just one open ended option.

For part A, I would put down that it had no power because it was unloaded. A unloaded gun isprobably the most useless thing on the planet. Then explain that it is a tool for a game. The truth is that a pitcher on your baseball team is far more deadly and dangerous than you with an unloaded

Part B - Responsible is the key here. You were responsibly handling an UNLOADED airsoft pistol, that you had unknowlingly packed. You were not flagarantly ignoring the law and it was an honest mistake.

Part C - I love this part. Basically talk abotu how Michael Moore is a socialist pig. As for Columbine, mention how all the guns were legally purchased and stored. Gun ownership is easy. I've often brought up this topic with my campus police. CNU is a state school, therefore, a state property. Technically, they can't ban firearms. Only private property can. Also, I love to point out that Washington DC is the most difficult place to own a fireare (it is virtually impossible) and has the highest concentration of law enforcement in the world (there are over 50 agencies that can write you a parking ticket ). DC also happens to have the highest homicde rate in the US.

Honestly, you broke the rules and you should have known better. But it was an honest mistake and I think you got off light. They could have suspended you outright.

What duties do you feel accompany gun ownership and/or use of a firearm.

Disciplinary probation? Deferred Suspension? 10 page paper? MICHAEL MOORE?!? All for an airsoft gun. That I wasn't even holding, that wasn't even fired.

I'd be looking for a new campus post haste.

As for Mikey Moore's steaming pile of excrement, the main theme ought to be easy to describe:
                        Utter B.S.

Sadly though this is the norm on college campii in this country these days.

The only reasonable part of that paper they ask for is the last, the responsibilities that are inherant with firearm ownership.

Mikey Moore is a fraud. That a college would hold him up as some paragon is disgusting.

okay 330 fps, shooting a .12 gram projectile isn't going to hurt that much, probably wouldn't even shoot through a popcan. C'mon you can't look at just speed here, you also have to look at weight, sure it might hurt like hell if you get hit in the eye, but i dont think its going to put an eye out, unless you are putting your eye up to the barrel and pulling the trigger.

a .12gram pellet that is 6mm in diameter is pushing alot of wind for how much it weighs, its has almost squat for momentum(sp?)

i dont think you could do much damage with an airsoft gun if any at all.
