I am sure he did sign a confidentiality contract, but as long as no real information is given relating to the person he may be ok depending on the terms. These are all different for different companies. I have signed several at work too (I supervised a lot of employees and worked in Loss Prevention for a short while). My contract stated that nothing was to be diclosed or discussed. He may be okay because these are general situations with very little specific information, but again, it depends on the wording of his contract. Unless you have read and signed his companies contract (I assume you have not read/seen/signed his), maybe you should ask about the terms instead of being quite so accusatory
It may not be illegal; again, it depends. Ethics is whole another question...

I snorted loudly, held my breath for the past three minutes and thought my head was going to explode...I scurried outside with my head down and face shielded with papers as tears went down my cheek trying to look normal unsuccessfully. As soon as the door closes behind I laughed so hard I fell against the wall and knowcked some stuff over.
