Apparently by your standards, your Dictionary is no more correct than mine.
They did, as it said on the website linked to. Now you know.I have no idea if the Chinese government ever said they were Communist.
It doesn't. It means that they consider themselves communist. It has been proven that China considers itself communist, and is led by the communist party. China is communist. You are dismissing everyone's proof of this by saying they didnt reach communisM, but you can't prove that being communisT requires reaching communisM. In fact, the opposite has been proven by 2 Dictionaries, one of which was yours. But Dictionaries are no match for you, even the CIA is a target of CB's Label of Ignorance.Hence why I asked, what makes the leading party being the communist party mean that they have reached communism. I KNOW that they have not reached communism- There's no replacement for displacement.

All those definitions deal with a person. A country is not communist for it is rule by the communist party. It is communist if it is either A) striving towards communism, or b) reached communism. Since neither is correct, they are not communistic.Comment

Nothing in this thread would make me not belive China or Russia is not COmmunist. In some ways, Comunism is not much more evil than Captilism. The fact that we are allowed certain civil liberties makes a big differnce. In Fact for many years, Chinese children were given a red book of Communist tennants to memorize.
CIA world Book.
The whole reason we went to war with Korean and Vietnam was to keep them from becoming Communist Occupied countriesFor centuries China stood as a leading civilization, outpacing the rest of the world in the arts and sciences. But in the 19th and early 20th centuries, China was beset by civil unrest, major famines, military defeats, and foreign occupation. After World War II, the Communists under MAO Zedong established a dictatorship that, while ensuring China's sovereignty, imposed strict controls over everyday life and cost the lives of tens of millions of people. After 1978, his successor DENG Xiaoping gradually introduced market-oriented reforms and decentralized economic decision making, and output quadrupled by 2000. Political controls remain tight even while economic controls continue to be relaxed.

Not to start another argument, but I have dealt with this idea of wars against "communism" earlier. We went to stop what we thought was the spread of soviet backers or allies, or whatever word you want to throw in there. The government used "communism" so that the people could have one term to grasp onto and the government can take it however they want to. Sort like how the government and the media toses around the term terrorist today. It was better then to actually try and describe just what system the Soviets was. Something along the lines of an authoritarian, semi socialist, semi capitalist, evolving government that takes two steps forward three steps back, etc..... To quote my professor of the Soviet government. "After 40 years of studding the system, living in Russia for 10 years, working with the Soviet Government for the US, I have still yet to understand exactly what it was, but I know one thing, it sure wasn't communist." (The same can be said about China too)
Read the link that Shartly was kind enough to offer. You will see a very brief description of how one is to reach communism, and what a communist country is and what one is not. You will see that China is not, nor has they ever been a communist nation, nor has the USSR, nor has any country.Comment

CB it is time to face the fact that you were in error for saying people were wrong about saying China was communist (based on the global definition rather than the ideal).
(Aaron mimics russian woman's voice)
You don't like it CB? Off to Siberia!
EDIT: If no one remembers my post on college niavete this was how a Russian woman described communism to me after I had just graduated from college and my father mentioned to her that I had studied (and agreed) with alot of communist theory in college!
EDIT AGAIN: God they had a good time mocking me and my foolish notions for an entire plane ride!ULE Body Level 10 Automag intelliframe + retrovalveComment

I have showed and actually have been backed by Shartley's link what communism is and what is is not. China does not fall into what a communist nation is, hence they are not a communist nation.
I could care less if the whole world thinks China is communist, that is not what makes you communist. But falling into the ideas of communism makes you communist.
Has China, and realitve countries reached commmunism, have they even came close. No. In fact they are on the far other end of the spectrum. So how can China be a communist nation. I know Shartley hates this but it is true. If you say that China and such are a communist nation, then you will have to say that just about all other countries on earth are communist nations. For if one reads how you reach communism, you will find out that it starts with an authoritarian government and works it way down slightly less repressive forms of government until it reaches communism.
They do not follow the ideas of Marx's, Engels etc.... They have nothing in their system of government that would lend them to even getting half way down the road to commuism.
So it is time for those who disagreed with me, to drop the arguement, for it is over. China is not and has never been a communist country.Comment

Logical Fallacy - Slothful Induction
Definition:
The proper conclusion of an inductive argument is denied despite the evidence to the contrary.
Examples:
Hugo has had twelve accidents in the last six months, yet he insists that it is just a coincidence and not his fault. (Inductively, the evidence is overwhelming that it is his fault. This example borrowed from Barker, p. 189)
Poll after poll shows that the N.D.P will win fewer than ten seats in Parliament. Yet the party leader insists that the party is doing much better than the polls suggest. (The N.D.P. in fact got nine seats.)
Proof:
About all you can do in such a case is to point to the strength of the inference.

The argument is not what most the of the world calls them, for that is irrelevant to what they actually are. The argument is are they a communist nation or not.
What makes a communist nation?
Following the ideas of communism maybe.
What are the ideas of communism, not what China and the others follow.
And no I do not have the copy of the CM sitting on my night stand, it is in my collection of historical works.
I am not leaving out peoples sources for they go against me, I am leaving them out for they are either wrong, or are irrelevant.
What does it matter what the CIA says China is, what does it matter if their political party is the communist party.
What matters is do they follow the ideas of communism or not.
And the simple answer is NO, they do not. Hence, they are not communist.
I didn't leave out anything out of your article that was pertinent to this debate. You left out the key parts to the argument. YOU left out what makes a communist nation and went straight for the authors statements. Typical, for all you all care about is what people call them. One day you will realize that because 999 out of 1000 people believes this, or calls something that, does not mean it is right.Comment

I agree (as you will see in earlier post) that a country striving to reach communism can be called communist. But the thing is, China and the rest are not nor have they ever strove to reach communism. From day one they went the other way, never striving towards communism but away from it.
The second one just doesn't make sense. The name of the political party has no bearing on what you are. China is called the Peoples Republic of China, they are far from that.Comment
