          Awesome weekend

First UM dominates FSU. Game was so fun to watch. I love watching games played in mud/snow. The game was nowhere near as close as the score. Even Berlin couldn't lose it for us.
This morning I find out the Ohio State lost. There luck finally ran out.

My perdicrion is that the winner of the Va. Tech/ Miami game will be the National Champion

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Think you all might enjoy this.

            Southern Football

Another reason why the South is great. Planning for the fall football season
in the South is radically different from up North. For those who are
planning a football trip in the South, here are some helpful hints.

            Women's Accessories:
NORTH: Chap Stick in back pocket and a $20 bill in the front pocket.
SOUTH: Louis Vuitton duffel with two lipsticks, waterproof mascara, and a
fifth of bourbon or a six-pack concealed somewhere. Money not necessary -
            that's what dates are for.

            Stadium Size:
NORTH: College football stadiums hold 20,000 people.
SOUTH: High school football stadiums hold 20,000 people.

            Campus Decor:
NORTH: Statues of founding fa! thers.
SOUTH: Statues of Heisman trophy winners.

            Homecoming Queen:
            NORTH: Also a physics major.
            SOUTH: Also Miss America.

            Heroes:
            NORTH: Rudy Guliani
SOUTH: Archie, Peyton & Eli Manning

            Getting Tickets:
NORTH: 5 days before the game you walk into the ticket office on campus and
            purchase tickets.
SOUTH: 5 months before the game you walk into the ticket office on campus
and put name on waiting list for tickets.

Friday Classes After a Thursday Night Game:
NORTH: Students and teachers not sure they're going to the game, because
            they have classes on Friday.
SOUTH: Teachers cancel Friday classes because they don't want to see the few
hung over students that might actually make it to class.

            Parking:
NORTH: An hour before game time, the University opens the campus for game
            parking.
SOUTH: RVs sporting their school flags begin arriving on Wednesday for theweekend festivities. The really faithful arrive on Tuesday.

            Game Day:
NORTH: A few students party in the dorm and watch ESPN on TV.
SOUTH: Every student wakes up, has a beer for breakfast, and rushes over to
where ESPN is broadcasting "Game Day Live" to get on camera and wave to the
idiots up north who wonder why "Game Day Live" is never broadcast from their
            campus.

            Tailgating:
NORTH: Raw meat on a grill, beer with lime in it, listening to local radio
            station with truck tailgate down.
SOUTH: 30-foot custom pig-shaped smoker fires up at dawn. Cooking is
accompanied by live performance by "Dave Matthews Band," who come over
during breaks and ask for a brew or hit off bottle of bourbon.

            Getting to the Stadium:
NORTH: You ask "Where's the stadium?" When you find it, you walk right in.
SOUTH: When you're near it, you'll hear it. On game day it becomes the state
            s third largest city.

            Conc! essions:
NORTH: Drinks served in a paper cup, filled to the top with soda.
SOUTH: Drinks served in a plastic cup, with the home team's mascot on it,
filled less than half way with soda, to ensure enough room for bourbon.

            When National Anthem is Played:
NORTH: Stands are less than half full, and less than half of them stand up.
SOUTH: 100,000 fans, all standing, (who normally can't carry a tune) sing
            along in perfect four-part harmony.

The Smell in the Air After the First Score:
            NORTH: Nothing changes.
SOUTH: Fireworks, with a touch of bourbon.

            Commentary (Male):
            NORTH: "Nice play."
SOUTH: "- tackle him and break his legs."

            Commentary (Female):
NORTH: "My, this certainly is a violent sport."
SOUTH: " - tackle him and break his legs."

            Announcers:
            NORTH: Neutral and paid.
SOUTH: Announcer harmonizes with the cro! wd in the fight song, with a tear in
his eye because he is so proud of his team.

            After the Game:
NORTH: The stadium is empty way before the game ends.
SOUTH: Another rack of ribs goes on the smoker. While somebody goes to the
nearest liquor store for more bourbon and brews, planning begins for next
            week's game.

Nothing else in the universe comes even halfway close to the glories of
            Southern football!!!

What a great weekend of football! First of all, my Irish finally got the run game on track (man, did they ever!) and upset #16 Pittsburgh just like I knew they would. That was great...we shut down the highest rated QB in the country, shut down the Heisman candidate wide receiver, and pretty much just shut down the whole Panther team. Just an all around awesome game!!! Bring on the "Rubbers" of USC!

OU mauled Texas so bad I think Texas ought to take the advice of a sign I saw in the crowd and take up "touch football" instead. Honestly, what does Mack Brown have to do to get fired? He's always got the #1 or close recruiting class, because he is a good recruiter, but he always falls flat. He has no national championships, no Big XII titles, he's never beaten OU, and he always loses the games to top ranked opponents. It's amazing...they have so much talent and yet it never happens for them. Texas fans must be so frustrated by now.

Ahhh...Rooster and eric. Hi guys! What flavor would you like that cold glass of "shut the hell up" in? Ohio State goes down finally, and it feels great doesn't it? They lose to Wisconsin, which is a good team, although Wisconsin lost to lowly UNLV....which got hammered by KU. So, in some "seven degrees of seperation" way, would KU beat Ohio State then? Probably not...but it'd be funny if they did! Anyway, I'm just glad the Buckeyes finally got out of the way and let the real title contenders step up. OU is winning the whole thing, people shouldn't even kid themselves.

I was really impressed with the fact Miami pulled it together and won in Tallahassee, although I think they definitely benefitted from the driving rain storm. Oh well, FSU had to play in it too and the 'Canes played a better ball game than they did.

              GO IRISH!
